Hi... I am interested in purchasing Census CDs.....any suggestions from anyone re: where to get these? THANKS, LYNNE
Lynne, Which years? Which states? Probably one of the best deals available right now is the 1880 CDs from the LDS. I have not seen them, but I have seen reviews of them which have raved about them. It is the complete 1880 census, transcribed and indexed - not images - onto about 50 CDs for $49. Other than that, I guess the online services from ancestry.com is probably the best deal, especially if you have a fast internet line for images. They are still rolling it out and there are no indices yet for the later years. Ancestry has 1790 and 1800 complete, 1810 partial, 1880 complete, 1900-1920 mostly complete. Ancestry also has the AIS index which is 1790-1850, plus some later years - but just index. Genealogy.com has partial 1850 images with index and similar index for 1790-1850/60 as part of GenealogyLibrary.com. They have an on-line subscription for 1900 census images with index. Search is limited as there is no wild carding or soundex on the surnames. This subscription is based on their census CDs. I currently use all of the ancestry and genealogy.com census stuff. I have a cable modem so getting the images is fast. the 1900 subscription tends to be flaky at times, usually weekends. I hope this helps, john. At 12:06 AM 2001-08-10 -0400, you wrote: >Hi...
