My G G Grandfather William Riley Sharp Davidson was civil war veteran who died 1904 and buried in Lawrence County, Ohio. I have copy of a marriage certif where he and wife Permelia Williams Davidson gave consent for their daughter Jenetta (my great grandmother) to marry in 1890. Their children were George, Samuel, Frank and William, Nettie, Mary and two other daughters Would love to know how to find out his parents' names? Especially with all the recent information on generals, commanders and Willliams and Smuels, etc. I did print out info to save which "John B. Lisle" put on the list just in case it pertained to my line. Thanks Florence in Ohio
Florence, I cannot help you with specifics, but.... Where did he live in 1900? How old was he when he died? Do you know anything of his birth - date or place? (1) You can likely get a death record for him in Ohio. Ohio death records of this time usually had the names of parents, if they were know to the the people reporting his death. (2) If we can find him in the 1900 census, we can find a good estimate of his birth date and state he was born. (3) As a Civil War vet, he was probably alive for 1850 census. In fact, he was probably living with his parents. He enlisted in Company H, 92nd Ohio Infantry, according to his pension index card. From that you might be able to tell what counties he like was living and you could check the 1850 or 1860 census to find that family. (4) You might be able to find a record of his marriage and that marriage record may also have the names of his parents. (5) Maybe you will get lucky and someone on this list already knows who he is. Or you can research the Davidson research site http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~genea/davidson.html and find some records for him. Have fun, john. Florence, More data for you... William DAVIDSON (M).................. M: 29 Oct 1868 Spouse: Permelia WILLIAMS , Lawrence, Ohio I checked and found him in the 1880 census. Interesting data... 2nd Ward - Ironton, Lawrence Co., OH, 3 June 1880, ED 89, p. 12 House 108 Family 123 Davidson, William W M 50 Head Md b. Delaware father: DE mother: DE Davidson, Parmelia W F 27 wife Md Ohio OH OH Davidson, Wilmina? W F 10 Dau S Ohio DE OH Davidson, Juletta W F 8 Dau S Ohio DE OH Davidson, Wm R. W M 6 Son S Ohio DE OH Davidson, Andrew F. W M 5 Son S Ohio DE OH Davidson, Samuel J T W M 1 Son S Ohio DE OH This tells me that your William was born about 1830 in Delaware and that his family moved to Ohio sometime between then and probably 1860. The good news is that there were very few Davidsons in Delaware in 1830 - the challenge is to find out which one moved to Lawrence Co., Ohio. 1830 CENSUS INDEX Name County Page Locality DAVIDSON JOHN New Castle 029 Christiana Hundred DAVIDSON JAMES Sussex 117 Dagsborough Hundred DAVIDSON AZARIAH Sussex 120 Dagsborough Hundred DAVISON JOHN Sussex 072 Baltimore Hundred DAVISON JOHN New Castle 069 Pencader Hundred Good luck - that is what I can do easily from here. john.
