James Davidson. Born 1756 in Raloo Parish, Larne, Antrim County, Ireland. Died 16 Jan 1822 in Raloo Parish, Larne, Antrim County, Ireland. Buried in Temple Corran Cemetery, Ireland. Letter from Mary Semple 1910= "we were from Calgary, Scotland; and had left Calgary to settle on the estate of William Edmondstone at Bullockwalk, near Ballycarry, North Ireland. This was after 1609, when Edrnondstone secured his property lease of 2,870 acres in Braidensland from John Dalway. Sir William Edmondstone, Laird of Duntreath, Stirlingshire, Scotland, was a relative by marriage to the Stuart family. Edmondstone secured 2870 acres of land in Braidisland, North Ireland. Braidisland is now known as Broad Island. A part of the land grant was what is now known as Dalway’s Bawn at Bullock Walk near Bellahill (Ballyhill.) Ballyhill is 12 miles North of Belfast in Antrim County, N. Ireland. Amongst the first settlers, between 1609 and 1640, were three brothers: John, James and Benjamin; their recently anglicized sur-name was Davidson. John and James settled in Bullock Walk, near Ballyhill, and Benjamin in nearby Carnxnoney. " "Your grandfather's parents were James Davison and his wife Margaret Jackson. When they were going to Ballycarry to be married, a press gang met them and took the young bridegroom along with many more to join the British army, at that time engaged in the revolutionary war with the United States, 1775. The father of Andrew Jackson, whose name was John, was born in BalIyhill. He married a girl called Betty Hutchins and they kept an inn in Carrickfergus. Afterwards they emigrated to North Carolina where their son, Andrew Jackson, was born on the 15th March 1767. Therefore, your Grandfather and him were first cousins. Another aunt of the President's, Sarah Jackson, was the wife of William Craig, and she sleeps in Raloo Churchyard." Second Generation 2. Matthew Davidson. Died About 1867 in Raloo Parish, Larne, Antrim County, Ireland. died during the Irish Potato Famine, sometime around 1850 Matthew had a total of 20 children He first married Ellen Unknown, About 1800 in Belfast, Ireland. Born About 1763 in Ireland. Died About 1822. She married Samuel Whiteford, 1850 in Carrickfergus Presbyterian Church, Ireland. Born in Ireland. Letter from Mary Semple 1910 ".......I knew your Aunt Isabelle Davison....many things about her family. She was the wife of Samuel Whiteford and lived next neighbour to us. Her mother, Jane Austin, the second wife of Matthew Davison, died with her. I often heard her say she was the youngest of her Father’s twenty children by his two wives." 3. James Davidson. He married Margaret McTier, daughter of Hugh McTier & Jane. Born 1802/1803 in Ayr, Scotland. Died 17 Feb 1886 in Raloo Parish, Larne, Antrim County, Ireland. Her son Robert during passage Ayre to Lame 1810, age 33 yrs, also Hugh McTier, her husband who died 4 May 1830, aged 104 yrs. Here rests the ashes of James Davison who died Nov 29, 1866, aged 82 yrs. Also his wife Margaret 17 Feb, 1886, aged 83 yrs. Also their son James Davison in N.Y.C. U.S.A., 16 Jan 1890, aged 47 yrs. They had the following children: i James Davidson; Born 1833 in Raloo Parish, Larne, Antrim County, Ireland. Died 16 Jan 1890 in New York City, New York. Buried in Temple Corran Cemetery, Ireland. 4. John Davidson. Born 1799. Died 6 Jan 1892. Buried in Temple Corran Cemetery, Ireland. Also, son David Davison who died 24 Feb. 1863 aged 20. Also his daughter Jane Davison who died Aug. 30, 1865, aged 20 years. The above named John Davison who died Jan., 1892, aged 93yrs. (Plastered over, not dearly legible) Mary 4th April aged 68 TEMPLECORRAN Erected by John Davidson I.M.O. his wife Mary, Apr 4th son Hugh son William son John daughter Agnes (Snoddy) Not very legible but same John Davidson a Davison, depending on when stone was carved. Note: One “D” in Davison, also the headstone resting against this on the left is of James Davison 1829-1915. John Davison 1799-1892 was his father and James 1756-1822 was James’ (1829) grandfather. Also his wife Mary Eliza, 13th Dec. 1899, aged 71. Also his son James who died 19th Nov. 1945, aged 89 (1856-1945). The said James Davison, 18 Mar. 1915. aged 86 yrs.
