    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Davidson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FNR.2ACEB/1436.1462.1.1.2.1.1.2.1 Message Board Post: The problem with Davidsons seems to be that every family in every generation has a John, William, George, and Samuel. William, son of John, was born in Ireland in 1736 (if I recall correctly). He had a twin brother named Samuel. I strongly believe that the import certificate in 1740 for Orange Co., VA is for this John Davidson family as the male names all match the known data. I have a web site where I have published some of my work on these Davidson families. (Frankly, I need to update it, but I have other work that needs to be done first.) The address is www.tqsi.com/davidson. It has a lot on the family of John and Martha Davidson, but probably needs some revision... Use this as a clue... john.

    3. A caution warning with the Orange Co, VA Davisons. There were two unrelated John Davisons who lived in Orange County. Mine lived there for about twenty years until 1742 when they moved down to Amelia Co, VA (the part that became Prince Edward County in 1754). My John and Ann Davison lived close (less than five miles NE) to the present town of Orange, Orange Co, VA near the Southwest Mountains. The migration of settlers in that part of Orange County was predominately from Spotsylvania, Essex, King William, King and Queen, etc. counties of Virginia. To the west, over the Blue Ridge mountains, in the valley where the other John Davison acquired land, they settlers were mostly from PA. The following pertains to the John Davison family who lived in that part of Orange County that became Augusta County: "This Immigrant John made oath in Orange County, Va. In 1740 that he had imported himself, Janes (his wife), and sons George, Thomas, William, and Samuel Davidson, at his own charge from Ireland to Philadelphia-making this oath that "I and my sons might obtain land in Virginia". (Orange Co. Va order book B., page 209)." I have also read in a history book that considerable advertising was done in Lancaster County area of PA period 1730s-1740s to encourage settlers to travel down the "wagon road" to what is now Augusta County, VA for land. Happy New Year to all Davidson/Davison researchers!! ------------------------------ ----- Original Message ----- From: <jbl@tqsi.com> To: <DAVIDSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 02, 2002 12:26 PM Subject: [DAVIDSON-L] Re: John and Samuel Davison of Beverly Patent > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Davidson > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FNR.2ACEB/1436.1462.1.1.2.1.1.2.1 > > Message Board Post: > > The problem with Davidsons seems to be that every family in every generation has a John, William, George, and Samuel. 3. Hollis Thank you for posting the import certificate transcription and the clarification on the two John Davisons. I do not believe that your John Davison was the John Davidson in Mecklenburg who died in 1778??? Did he go to NC, or was it just some of his descendants? By the way, you may wish to post your message on the message board as the original message that I responded to came from there by someone who is not likely a subscriber to this list so will not see your message and I think will want to see it. thanks, john. 3. Re John and Samuel of Beverly Patent discussion -- Perhaps motivated by a sense of frustration, I wonder if there is any connection between John and Samuel and another set, James and Samel, who appear in Washington /later Scott with James on the Little Mocassin by 1774. Samuel lived in the opposite -eastern -end of the county. Both were part of the 1780 Battle of Kings Mountain. Is enough known about the James and Samuel , sons of John, to exclude this connection? Sorry, John, your web site does not have the structure/verbage I need. I am most impressed by your research.
