    3. Hi John, In Buncombe County, NC you may want to visit the grave site of our ancestor Major William Davidson at Swannanoa Presbyterian Church (many other relatives are buried there also), the grave site of his twin brother Samuel Davidson on nearby Jones Mountain,  the Smith-McDowell House in Asheville (where Daniel Smith's rifle is on display), the David Vance home place and possibly the Old Buncombe County Genealogical Society. There are several other places in Asheville/Buncombe County of interest , so hopefully these few I have mentioned will be a good starting point.   James B. Butts ----- Original Message ---- From: John Lisle <davidson@tqsi.com> To: davidson@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, September 7, 2008 5:19:31 AM Subject: [DAVIDSON] Travelling to Tennessee and North Carolina Hi list members, No DNA or list etiquette in this message! My wife recently retired, and we decided to "celebrate" by taking a bit of a tour to some of my Davidson ancestral places in Tennessee and North Carolina. Although I have been an avid researcher of the Davidson families in these areas for many years, I have never actually visited these places that my grandmother's ancestors lived. My projected itinerary has us in Nashville during the weekend of 11-14 September and in Atlanta area during the following weekend. In between Nashville and Atlanta and the week after Atlanta, we plan to stop in sites in the Bedford/Coffee Co., TN; Buncombe/Transylvania Co., NC; and Iredell Co., NC, with a somewhat fluid schedule. If anyone has any specific suggestions for places to visit or any special events during that time period, I would like to hear of them. Thanks, john. Davidson that you mention. This donor has no "closely matching donor" at this time, so that is why he is listed in the "Group Results" section versus the "Family Results" setion. This donor shows that he is out of Thomas' son named John C. Davidson who married a Miss Pepper, and this record shows that Thomas himself was married to a Nancy Kitchens. 3. John,  Good luck on your trip.  When in Tenn. keep your eye peeled for my Daniel Davidson and Mary Enochs marriage record.  I am thinking they may have stopped off in Tenn. with the other Davidson relatives before going on into Ky. in 1810.  Did I ever tell you I have pretty good evidance there were 2 Daniel Davidsons?  Father and son.  Discovered this in the Sullivan Co., In. genealogy library where they have a Dr.'s Daybook from that era. It shows my gr.gr.grandfather paying for medicine for HIS Mother.  The year was 1818.  Think this may be why it has been so hard to track my gr.gr.grandfather for the census records carry the same name (Daniel Davidson) through from  1810 Ky. to Ind. 1820 in Indiana census.  My gr.gr.grandfather was only about 24 on the 1810 census with three children in the household and this older man and woman  was 45 and upward.  Of course now I know that older woman was Daniel's Mother.  Wonder which of the two men  the name on the census referred to as head of the household. It would sure help me to know for sure if I have two Daniels. Both old people disappear on the 1840 census.  Probably dead by then.  Still plan to have my nephew do the DNA but he has been so tied up with kids in college, and his business it has been hard.  Also he lives just north of Dayton, Ohio and I am in Carmel, In. Have a good time on your trip and let us all know how it goes.  Mary     ----- Original Message ---- From: John Lisle <davidson@tqsi.com> To: davidson@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, September 7, 2008 5:19:31 AM Subject: [DAVIDSON] Travelling to Tennessee and North Carolina Hi list members, No DNA or list etiquette in this message! 3. John For additional research, there is always the Tennessee State Library and Archives in Nashville.  However, a weekend probably would not permit you to visit.  I don't remember their hours but I'm sure weekends are not open.  Lots of records transcribed by WPA.  Also, lots of microfilm on land grants, etc.  Hit the Hermitage if you have time.  Quite by accident, I found a presentation sword to one of my ancestors on display and was able to take a picture of it with my son standingg by.  At age 13, he didn't feel the excitement as I did.  That was about 25 years ago.. Wish you a safe and good journey. John, I'm so glad to hear that you are coming south.  I know you and your wife will enjoy it.  A few months ago, I met a Davidson cousin from Evansville IN that did the same thing after taking their daughter to a conference in Gatlinburg, TN.  We had a wonderful afternoon together visiting Davidson sites.   I would love to meet you in person after all these years of Davidson discussions.  I live about 5 miles from Centre.  My phone number is 704-663-5227 (h) and 704-881-3170 (c) if you would like to go around Iredell together.  Centre Church, Hopewell and Davidson College are good spots.  Let me know if I can help you when you get in Iredell.   Take care, Tina Davidson Buie --- On Sun, 9/7/08, John Lisle <davidson@tqsi.com> wrote: From: John Lisle <davidson@tqsi.com> Subject: [DAVIDSON] Travelling to Tennessee and North Carolina To: davidson@rootsweb.com Date: Sunday, September 7, 2008, 5:19 AM Hi list members, No DNA or list etiquette in this message! 1. [DAVIDSON] List Admin message - Sale Extended!
    2. John Lisle
    3. Dennis, In addition to receiving the Davidson list messages as they are sent, you can choose to get the messages as a Digest, about once a day. John replied to the digest so it was just below his message. Maybe I need to remind list members of a few etiquette points. 1/ If you want to reply to a digest message, please edit the digest to just show the message you are replying to. AND please change the subject line so it reflects your issue. 2/ If you are replying to a message that was gatewayed from a message board, you must assume that the people who left the message board are NOT subscribed to this list. Please use the link in the message to reply to the message. I would like to remind folks on this list that we started the Davidson DNA project over 4 years ago just to help resolve the issues where no clear paper trail exists. I think that Davidson researchers have a tremendous amount of new data on their family as a result of the DNA project. I just wish that everyone was taking advantage of the technology. It really helps those of us who have some expertise on one or more Davidson families be able to help you. It takes so much out of the area of speculation. Our lab FamilyTreeDNA.com has been so much help. They are having a sale right now that they just announced they will extend for another 30 days. This is the right time to get your 37 marker test done. Tell everyone you know. Lastly, as much as Davidson genealogy is important to all of us, right now we must all say prayers to the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. I cannot believe there might be another major tragedy just three years after Katrina. john. I have never been able to find any proof of this. This information seems to be based on the fact that some of the Davidsons in the book moved to Barren County Kentucky. There were already Davidsons in Barren County and they were then assumed to be the same family and they were not. I guess that the Barren County Family was from Glochester. The book is the descendants of the five original Davidsons that settled in Overton County Tennessee in 1806 on Caney Creek near Travisville in what is now Pickett County Tennessee. The Overton County Davidsons and the Barren County family has been seperated by DNA testing. Dennis Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
