Mary, I appreciate your interest, but I am looking for known male descendants of William Lee Davidson who settled in Louisiana after the Battle of New Orleans in 1814, who trace their ancestry to William Davidson and Elizabeth Charlton of Montgomery County, Virginia. These folks have posted on Davidson message boards in the past and I am trying to connect with them. It looks like you have already received plenty of good information about the Davidson DNA project. I hope it was helpful to you. Jerome Davidson Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: philipdavidson46 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.davidson/4854.4.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: This is to inform the cousins from KY that Samuel N and Jane Russell moved to KY near Lexington between 1860 & 1870. Samuel was born in Anderson County, TN and son of Wm & Anna Nickle Davidson. This William is believed to have been the son of Samuel and grandson of Colonel Wm Lee Davidson of Morgan County TN. One Wm Davidson purchased 640 acres North of the Clinch in 1788 but did not live on the land until @ 1800. He sold his interest to his sons, Samuel, Joseph JAMES, and Mosias Jones Davidson. Does anybody recognise these Davidsons. Rev Wm R Davidson lived and had a Cumberland Presbyterian Congregation near Shelbyville in 1903. I don't know but I assume the Colonel had land in KY as he did in TN. Wm R wrote to my Ggf, Rev John Henry Davidson who was a Circuit Rider in the Oak Ridge/Powell/Wheat area of Knox and Roane County as it was near the 640 acres purchased in 1788. Alas, the Davidson heirs of this line refuse to be tested saying, For what purpose? They just don't understand! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: tunnelm1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.davidson/4533.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: UPDATE: DNA testing has shown that the Josiah Davidson who married Susannah "Suky" Hughes was a member of "Family 7" versus a member of my "Family 10." Both of these Davidson/Davison families had several members in Buckingham Co., VA in the early-1800s. This test, along with a separate test on a descendant of a Micajah Davidson who was born in Buckingham Co., VA around 1808 (who also matched "Family 7"), seems to also prove that the John Davidson who was on the 1810 Buckingham census was a member of "Family 7" versus "Family 10." The John Benning Davidson of "Family 10" left Buckingham and moved to "next-door" Cumberland Co., VA with his father Charles Davidson in the 1780s or so. I had thought that the John Davidson on the 1810 Buckingham census MIGHT have also been John Benning Davidson, but it now appears that John Benning Davidson never returned to Buckingham (he may have died in Cumberland Co., VA before the 1810 census there, or he could have left the area all toge! ther by 1810). I found a donor to take the DNA test from a descendant of my ancestor. I filled out the information and had the kit sent to him. My contact was through his mother. He and I never corresponded and I have never personally met him or his mother. I'm so greatful that they agreed to do the test, so I say have a kit sent to your nephew and "Go for it"!!! If you have any problems or questions at all on the procedures, I'm sure Bill will walk you through it. Ruth Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. John Lisle is the Administrator with some other cousins helping. There are about 14 subgroups according to DNA findings. There was a Daniel from Russell County, VA son of James II who migrated to KY. This could be your Daniel? Robert stayed in VA but several brothers moved to KY. My family were also Railroad men and moved all over the USA! Post Civil War. Author: tunnelm1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.davidson/4854.3.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Mary...the Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) order screen/form allows you to pay for the DNA test yourself (either immediately by credit card or by having an invoice mailed directly to your home), while having the testing kit mailed directly to the donor's home. This "technique" is used quite often. You have been looking for your "connection" for so long now that I would think that DNA is probably the ONLY way that you will EVER determine the lineage of your Daniel Davidson. You should join via going to the Davidson/Davison/Davisson DNA website at: www.davidsongenes.org and clicking on: Join Now and Order DNA Test. This will take you to the FTDNA website "order screen," and a little way done that first page/screen, you will come to an area where you can start to fill-in the required information. Note: By joining through the above Davidson/Davison/Davisson DNA website, versus going directly to the FTDNA website, you will be given the less expensive "group rate." Just follow the instructions on the order screen/form. I highly recommend the 37 marker test, since fewer markers can lead to "false positives." You will need the name and mailing address of your donor in order to complete everything. The donor will receive the kit in two-three days, and once he has his samples ready to return to FTDNA (using the postage-paid envelope that he will receive with the testing kit), he will also need to sign and include the provided "release form" (this allows his results to be shared with others). After your donor has mailed everything back to FTDNA, we should obtain the results in about 5-8 weeks. DNA testing has proven to be "worth its weight in gold," relative to my family research on BOTH my paternal AND maternal lines. I could have researched for another 1,000 years and not learned what the DNA results have provided me. Comments or questions? Author: MaryPielemeier Surnames: Davidson, Enochs,Bryan Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.davidson/4854.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: In approximately 1984 a gentleman came to Sullivan, Ind on his way to visit relatives. His name was Davidson. He went to the local barber shop to get a hair cut and enquired if my father Thomas Franklin Davidson, Jr. was still living. He told the barber he was from Lousiana and was apparently a relative. By this time I was living in Indianapolis and my father was in a nursing home so I was never able to get to the bottom of just who this was. I think he may have said he worked for the railroad. This info. is all second handed from the barber who knew nothing really about our family tree. I have always wondered just who this could have been as I searched for the parents of my Daniel Davidson who married Mary Enochs and came to Sullivan Co., Indiana from Jefferson county Ky about 1818. Daniel is my brick wall. I have a lot of info. on George Davidson from Jessamine county Ky. who was buying land with the Hunter family in Fayette and Jessamine co. Ky. His children and Da! niel's entermarried in Indiana. But cannot find anything beyond 1818 on Daniel other than the census records say he was born in Va. His wife Mary Enochs was the daughter of Thomas Enochs and Nancy Bryan of Rowan Co., N.C. who moved to Ky in the early 1800s. Does any of this click with you? As far as I know Daniel was only married one time. I have a Davidson nephew who is willing to take part in the DNA test, but he lives in Ohio and I do not get to see him very often. If you click on Surnames and then Davidson and then Jonathan, go back to Jonathan's father John husband of Rachel Ellis. Click on the camera and you will see two deed book pages (one is titled as the source) and you will see Jonathan as the son of John. The issue is whether Jonathan is the Jonathan in Illinois. Since Jonathan is not my direct line, I did not pursue research beyond the deed in the Barren County Deed Book K and the Jonathan in the census in Illinois, As I say, almost all of my research is on these pages. If you have questions or requests for things that may not make sense, let me know and I'll try to supply further informaiton.
