Hi Anna, This is the first experience I've had with Masonic records. I was pleased with the response I received from the Grand Lodge of Kentucky. Mr. William Hinton, Director of Education for the Grand Lodge of Kentucky took the time to check several individual lodge rolls that are not indexed. He wasn't able to find the Davidson I was searching for but gave me the names of 3 others that appeared in the time period I was interested in. I am still waiting to hear from the lodges in Arkansas that I e-mailed but it has been only a short time. Below are links to the Grand Lodges you asked about. I'm not sure how much information will come from their records other than date of acceptance and date of Masonic funeral. I searched "Masons Florida"using www.alltheweb.com Link to Grand Lodge of Florida http://www.glflamason.org/ Link to Grand Lodge of Georgia http://www.glofga.org/ ----- Original Message ----- From: <AnnaG1938@aol.com> To: <DAVIDSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, February 27, 2001 3:35 PM Subject: Re: [DAVIDSON-L] Masons -- or Cecil Jones > Dear Cecil, > > I have never thought about contacting the Masons. For W.D. Davidson The William Davidson I mentioned was born 8/6/1776 and died 12/1837. I am not sure if he was born in PA or SC. However, he is buried in Mt. Zion, Illinois. I have seen the headstones of William and many of his descendants. They are buried in the old cemetery behind the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church. If anyone is researching Davidsons in this area, be assured the Mt. Zion Library is loaded with information about William Davidson and his descendants. They are recognized as one of the pioneer families of this central Illinois area. I went there hoping to find out information about William's parents -- but did not find anything new. William married Elizabeth Mayes in Union District, S.C. (His brother, Samuel, also married a girl named Elizabeth Mayes. William and Samuel's wives were cousins. Samuel, also, moved to Illinois.) William's wife was the daughter of Thomas Mayes and Jean Rutherford. The Rutherfords were from Pennsylvania, as were the parents of William Davidson. William's parents were John and (maybe) "Tabitha" Davidson. John Davidson and Tabitha moved from PA to South Carolina between 1774 and 1776. Their children were James, Joseph, Jean, John (my ggggrandfather -- who moved from SC to GA), Elizabeth, Mary, Samuel and William Davidson. William and Elizabeth's children were Elizabeth, Jane, John, Thomas, William, Jr., Andrew (called Jacky), and Mary. I am not sure where Mary was born, but the other children were born in South Carolina, before William and Elizabeth Mayes Davidson moved to Illinois. They were in Illinois by 1817. I do not know if they settled any place between South Carolina and Illinois. Hope this helps.
Dear Cecil, I have never thought about contacting the Masons. I am interested in contacting the Masons in Georgia and Florida. How do you find the main Mason address for the states one may be researching? Have other people done this...and how successful is it? Also, does anyone know of any other organizations that Davidsons of Scottish ancestry and Presbyterian faith could have been prone to join? Thanks, Anna Gayle DAVIDSON McClure

Glover was born in St.Louis, MO. about 1900 to Bunyan Owen Davidson. They moved to CA. about 1910. Bunyan probably died before 1919 . I do not know his wife's name. Glover married a woman named Dorthy. He was killed by a trolley car in San Francisco and I do not know when that happened. He was not on the s.s.list but not everyone had to sign up for it then. His father, Bunyan, was a lawyer who went to law school in Kansas City,KS. about 1880. Does anyone know of a law school in Kansas City in 1880? Is anyone related to this family? I would love to find any children that Glover might have had. Since he only had 3 sisters he would have been the one to carry on the Davidson name in our family. Glover was named for his mother Dora Jane Glover Davidson. Thank you for any help. Joan

Eugene seems like a wonderful name ... especially after your mind had become circular after all of the William and John Davison/Davidsons in our lineage! (Of course, those are wonderful names also ... and just to be traditional, I named one of my sons "Robert," which shows up a lot in the Davidson family, too.) I, too, would like more details of the father of William Samuel Davidson (sometimes shown as William L. Davidson in census records) who was born in Haywood or Buncombe County, North Carolina Aug 7 1811. We show is father to be James Davidson who was born in 1780 and married Nancy Isbell Apr 4 1800. (NOT to be confused with a previous Nancy Isbell, please.) We think that the father of James may have been George Davidson, Jr. born about 1750 ... probably in Iredell County, NC. All help would be appreciated. JD
hi roger: thanks for your response. i don't see where their is any connection between or davidsons and my frustration grows every day. it was a real shot in the dark but both names are so unusual and completely out of character for my family. thanks again and find joy in your work! allen "davidson" murray
Hi John, No, I wasn't aware of that resource. I just went there and they are temporarily down, but I'll check back in a week or so. Thank you for the lead!! Karen
I recently contacted the Grand Lodge of Kentucky for information on a Mason, William Ellis DAVIDSON, born Barren Co., Kentucky 1817. He died in Izard Co.,AR in 1853 or 1857. While the records for Kentucky didn't show William E. DAVIDSON, he did have 3 other DAVIDSONS. His message: I have searched the rosters of: Allen Lodge No. 24 (Glasgow, Barren County), Bowling Green Lodge No. 73 (Bowling Green, Warren County) Bear Wallow Lodge No. 231 (Cave City, Barren County) For the years 1838,1839, 1840, 1841, 1843, 1848, 1850, 1852, and 1857. They were the lodges in existence during this period of time. I could not find a listing for a William E. Davidson. However, there were some Davidsons in the lodges. They were: W. B. Davidson, Allen Lodge No. 24 (1852) B. A. Davidson, Allen Lodge No. 24 (1857) James C. Davidson, Bowling Green Lodge No. 73 (1852) William G. Hinton, Past Grand Master Director of Education
There is also a Andrew Jackson Davidson, born 25 April 1825 "In Virginia. He married Clarinda Barnes Mix in 1845 in Knox county Ohio. Seems Andrew Jackson was a common name for Davidsons Dick Davidson
My grandfather was also named Eugene Doyle Davidson b 3/31/1906. No idea where they got the name. I cant find any ancestors with that name. My grandfather liked it enough to name his son Eugene and eventually his grandson followed suit. Mona Larry and Kay wrote: > John, > Hold a minute on the Eugene comment. I have and Andrew Jackson Davidson in my lineage, born 10/24/1844 in Benton Co. TN. But mine married a Mary A. Laird. He died about 1885. I don't have any information about their children. My family did move to Arkansas at some point after that. I don't know if that helps or not!! Karen Spurrier

There have been several messages about this gentleman. i wonder if anyone knows if this William Lee Davidson is in the line of the recent discussions about Samuel H. Davidson who had to legitimize two of his children in TN? Samuel's father was Abraham, and Abraham's father was John, born in Bertie, NC. Does this ring any bells with anyone? This is as far back as I have been able to get. Thank you for your help, Karen
Margaret born 1830, Pencaitland, Scotland, dau. of George Davidson & his wife Marion KING. 1851 census, there is a Margaret DAVIDSON, age 21, unmarried , General Servant with Herkes family, in West Penston, Ormiston Parish. Is anyone researching Margaret, I did not find a marr. but I could have missed it. Mary.
I have a John Davidson born in 1730 in Bertie, NC. I have no information further back than him. but I have a wife, Hannah, and three sons John Jr., Abraham, and Joseph. There could well me more children than I know about. That is the farthest back I have traced that line. If this rings a bell with anyone, please reply. Karen
Anna: Can you provide any info on the William Davidson you mention. Such as birth and death, spouse, children, migration pattern, etc. AnnaG1938@aol.com wrote: > > I am researching Davidsons who lived in South Carolina at the time of the > American Revolution. Posted on: Davidson Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/Davidson/490 Surname: Davidson, Dague, Blan, Bryan, Hansen ------------------------- Looking for information on Robert L. Davidson (an artist, b. 5/24/1856) who once lived at 334 Bloomfield Ave, Montclair, NJ in 1934. He was married to Harriet Dague (b. 3/21/1853). Their children were Carrie Bell Davidson (Blan), Sarah Ann Davidson (Hansen), and Roy Bernard Davidson who married Gladys Gilbert and had two daughters: Gladys Marie and Harriet Shirley. He knew Vernon W Davidson who wrote to another family member that one of Robert's children was involved in the family geneology. If anyone can shed some insight or claim lineage, e-mail me privately. Thank you, William R Davidson davidson@acm.org
