    1. Re: [DAVIDSON-L] Fleming Davidson
    2. Lois, We have been researching this line of William Davidson and Sarah Fleming for a number of years and never were certain of the names of their children. We thought a Joshua Davidson & Mary Green of Brown Co. OH. was one of their children. Plus the Fleming Davidson. Have you ever noticed a Robert Davidson born about 1752 among a list of their children. Robert moved on to Mason Co. KY. with Joshua Davidson around 1790 to 1800's. I have much printed information on this line but have it put away in notebooks. The men were soldiers of the Rev. War. according to articles I have read. Please help us with our research, anyone. Becky

    1. [DAVIDSON-L] Seven Davidson Brothers.

    1. [DAVIDSON-L] Fleming Davidson
    2. What am I doing wrong, I am new to this "Davidson site". What is the difference between Davidson-L and Davidson- D.?? There is always one that doesn't understand. I am searching for the seven Davidson Brothers that fought in the Rev, War. My line goes back through Fleming Davidson, son of William Davidson. I understand there were more than two W illiams of that time period. The William of my interest would have been born 25 Dec. 1725, Scotland (?), Died Jan. 1805 in Bucks Co., PA. He married Sarah Mary Fleming. I will try to adhere to the Davidson "rules of the Web site" if some kind Davidson descendant will show me the right procedure. Thank you, a dozen times over LOIS S. W.

    1. [DAVIDSON-L] Davidson family in Pepin County, Wisconsin (and descendants near & elsewhere)
    2. Yes, we descendants of Davidsons are still here. In fact, I'm wondering if any relatives of mine might be interested in meeting anywhere near Pepin County, Wisconsin about July 6-9 or 5th to 10th at the most. This is near Menomenie, Dunn County which is not too far from Eau Claire, Wisconsin. (I'm coming from near Seattle, Washington.) Are you a relatives? Here's my lineage: I am descended from Thomas and Catherine Davidson who currently reside in the E. Pepin Cemetery...and came to the US (or at least Thomas did) sometime before 1850 -- possibly as early as the early 1840s. Catherine (nee Walker) I believe came in 1849-1851. Thomas Davidson was born March 13,1828 in the town of Maghareagh, County Antrim (according to his obituary). This is in what is now "Northern Ireland". He died March 20, 1908 in the town of Albany (not really a town -- a township), Pepin County, Wisconsin. According to the obituary, "His youth and early manhood was spent in Scotland. When a young man, he emigrated to America and lived for several years in the states of New York and New Jersey". In 1854 he married Catherine Walker, possibly in New York. Their children were: #1 - Mary J. Davidson born August 11, 1855, possibly in New York or New Jersey, died in Eau Claire, Wisconsin #2 - Margaret Ann Davidson born January 1857 in Vernon Township, Waukesha County, Wisconsin, who married Thomas M. Huey and had four children whose descendants still live in Dunn County, Wisconsin and elsewhere; she died in Downsville, Dunn County on October 19, 1946. Their children were John William, Bertha M., Marjory A. and James Duncan Huey. I have some beautiful photos of Margaret, obituaries of her and Tom Huey, and have met with two of her grandchildren. I was told by my great-aunt that Marjory or Bertha wrote a history of the family and they were active in Eastern Star. I would very much like information about activities in this organization and who might have had a history passed on...??? Is there an Eastern Star retirement home in the area of Dunn County, Wisconsin or nearby? #3 - James Davidson born September 6, 1858 probably in Vernon Township, Waukesha County, Wisconsin, who never married. In 1899 he lived in Weyburn, Saskatchewan where he was a wheat farmer. He died in Mondovi, Buffalo County, Wisconsin on January 1, 1930. #4 - Frances Davidson born September 1860 in Vernon, Waukesha County, Wisconsin who married Levi Glidden Wallace known as Lew Wallace, and had a large family. Frances was known as "Fanny" and she and Lew had a family which included Inez Katherine Wallace who married Wallace Norrish, and their son was Lee Norrish, who lived in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Frances died in 1943. Other children included Leslie G., Carl Henry, Harold L., Oscar, Ethel M., Frances Lisbeth "Beth", Dorthey M., Madge Elenore, and two babies who died in infancy. #5 - Thomas Ford Davidson -- also know as Thomas Davidson Jr. - born July 9, 1863 in Vernon, Waukesha County, Wisconsin, who married Alwilda "Wilda" Catt on April 13, 1892 in Mondovi, Buffalo County, Wisconsin. Tom and Wilda separated in the late 19-teens, never reunited, but never divorced. Wilda lived for the remainder of her life with her daughter Ruby May Davidson Harper (my grandmother), and she died in Seattle, Washington on January 21, 1942. Tom Davidson continued to live in the Rock Falls area of Dunn County, Wisconsin, close to the Dunn/Pepin county line, but in his old age his daughter Ruby went back to Wisconsin and brought him to live with her in Seattle where he died in 1954. Grandmother returned with his casket and he is buried in Rock Falls Cemetery, Dunn County, Wisconsin. Tom and Wilda's children were Ford Walker Davidson who married Josephine Wursing and lived in Milwaukee; Ruby May Davidson (my grandmother) who married Eugene O. Harper (also known as Edward O. Figg) and had children Jeanne Theresa Harper (also known during early childhood as Emma) and Edith Oriole Harper; Mattie Ethel who died in childhood, Margaret Ann Davidson who married George Dayton and had no children; Thomas Frank Davidson who went by "Frank" and never married or had no children and died in California; and Frances Alwilda Davidson, who died in early childhood. My great-grandfather Thomas Davidson is buried in Rock Falls Cemetery beside his daughters Mattie and Frances and his mother-in-law Anna Hoover Catt Haskell. #6 - Myra Davidson born July 9, 1863 and died the same day or shortly thereafter -- Tom Davidson's twin sister. #7 - Catherine Davidson also known as Katherine or Kate, born April 4, 1865 in Lucas Township, Dunn County, Wisconsin, died January 20, 1906 in Mondovi Buffalo County, Wisconsin. She was a popular school teacher and my great-grandfather Tom's favorite sister. She married Carl Edward Pabst and had a large family, but died of complications of childbirth. Her children were Harry, Julius Edward, Martha, Rosealine also known as Rosalie, Myra Wilhelmina, and Mary Evaline, who was only 2 when Kate died. I believe the older children went with Carl Edward Pabst to the area of Aberdeen in South Dakota but do not know what happened then. I'd really like to hear from his and Kate's descendants, as I have photographs of some of these children in the early 19-teens and I'd like to identify more -- and obtain a photograph of Kate or identify her in my grandmother's photo album if she is one of the unidentified people. #8 - Martha Davidson also known as "Mattie", born September 14, 1868 in Pepin County, Wisconsin, married Israel "Ike" Pabst July 27, 1904 in Mondovi, Buffalo County, Wisconsin, died April 27, 1934. Her husband and her sister's husband were brothers. She had twins who died in infancy. She raised one or more of her sister Kate's children and also took care of her mother-in-law Wilhelmina Pabst in her old age. Mary Evaline, who was only 2 when Kate died, went to live with Mattie and Ike, and although she went out west to Montana and then California, she went back to Wisconsin and cared for Mattie before she died, according to a neighbor. I'd also like a photograph of her... #9 - Franklin Davidson known as "Frank" who was born in Albany Township, Pepin County, Wisconsin in 1872 and who lived the latter part of his life in the Boise, Idaho area. As of the 1930s when his father Tom Davidson made a trip by train "out west" Frank was said to be unmarried. It is not know that he ever married or had children. WHAT I HAVE AND WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR: I have photos from the late 1800s and early 1900s -- many identified -- that came to my mother from my grandmother Ruby Davidson Harper and belonged to her parents originally. I'd like to know what happened to the rest of the family -- hear their version of the family history -- and perhaps exchange photos. I'd especially like to know more about my great-great-grandparents Thomas and Catherine Davidson. My great-aunt Margaret left an unpublished manuscript loosely based on the family history starting with the romance of Thomas and Catherine in their youth -- purporting that they met on the ship coming over to America -- and I'd love to find out what parts are true. I've spent a couple of decades researching and much of the book coincides with supporting documentation -- but not all. I will be visiting the graves of my great-great-grandparents in Pepin County, Wisconsin about July 7 and would like to know if there are relatives nearby who would like to meet?

    3. Hi . . . My name is Sandy Laurie. I've just recently found that my husband's gr aunt, Mary Jane Laurie, married Walter McFarlane Davidson in Scotland in 1867. They had four children: James 1867, Walter 1870, Jane Laurie 1872, and Parlane(male)McFarlane 1874. We cannot find the Lauries after the mid 1890's . . . hoping to trace them through the Davidsons. 2. I have been searching my family tree for several years and have often wondered, when did the first Davidson come to this country and where did they come from, Ireland of Scotland. I have read the first known came to Ipswich Mass in the 1600's but where did they come from..and how many were there.. Has anyone ever done a complete Davidson Clan history... Were they ran out of Scotland during the clearances, or did they sell each other into indentured service just to get here... Im sure some of you have wondered the same thing and would be some grateful if you knew the answers. So, does anyone have the answers? Dick Davidson

    3. Even if I don't knock down my brick wall, I hope this helps others. See below for information on the children of George Davidson. Does anyone have a list of the other eight children of Joshua Sr. and Sarah Brackett Davidson? George’s parents were Joshua Sr. and Sarah Brackett Davidson. They had a total of nine children. See end of message for descendant tree of Joseph. Could my Joseph have been a brother to George? Joseph was born about 1766 and died in Iron Cty. Mo. in 1864. His wife was named Polly. He lived for a time and died on Duck River, Hickman Cty, TN. Janet Littlejohn Descendants of George Davison Generation No. 1 1. GEORGE1 DAVISON was born 1762 in Prince Edward Co, Va, and died June 14, 1838 in Maury Co, Tn. He married LUCRETIA CREASEY MCDEARMAN February 9, 1790 in Prince Edwards, Virginia, daughter of DUDLEY MCDEARMAN and FNU MCMACKLIN. She was born January 1, 1769 in Prince Edward Co, Va, and died January 1, 1861 in Polk Co. Mo. Notes for GEORGE DAVISON: or Davidson Notes for LUCRETIA CREASEY MCDEARMAN: George Davidson married "Creasey" McDearmon, daughter of Dudley McDearmon, February 9, 1790. She was born in Prince Edward County, Virginia, in the latter half of 1768 or the first half of 1769. (She was 81 years old in the 1850 census; so she was about 21 when she married George Davidson; and 70 when he died in 1838.) John Brackett (Sarah's brother) was Surety. We do not know exactly when George and Lucretia moved their family from Virginia to Tennessee. Three of their children, and perhaps four or more, were born in Virginia; but their last child, Susan, was born in Maury County, Tennessee, in 1816. The family must have been in Maury County, however, in September, 1814, when two sons, Joshua and Bracket, volunteered for six months service in the War of 1812. Bracket, the younger, was 17--nearing his 18th birthday (November 17). Bracket was wounded "on the evening of December 23, 1814, being engaged with the enemy at or near a place called New Orleans." The County records of land deeds show that their father, George Davidson, bought 100 acres May 20, 1816, from Samuel Polk for $200. The land was on Flat Creek, a tributary to Duck Creek, in northeastern Maury County. Samuel Polk's son, James Knox Polk, became the 11th President of the United States, serving one term (1845-1849). The Polks had lived in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, and were neighbors (related by marriage) to the Davidson families of that county and Iredell. Tradition is that the Davidsons of North Carolina and Prince Edward County, Virginia, were closely related; but exactly how is not known. George Davidson died in 1838, in Maury County, Tennessee. He must have been buried near his home but there is no stone extant. Lucretia was 69 or 70 when George died. Their sons, Joshua and Bracket, had moved to Missouri. Page 343 of November, 1838, Court reads: On motion and it appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that George Davidson, late of Maury County is dead and that he died in said County of Maury intestate leaving effects in said County of Maury to be administered. It is therefore ordered by the Court that letters of administration on the estate of said deceased issue to Henry W. Derryberry & Robert A. Glenn who executed bond in the sum of four thousand dollars with William Swain and David Fogliman their securities who were selected by the Court as sufficient security and thereupon said Henry W. Derryberry and Robert A. Glenn were duly qualified as administrators of said deceased and received letters of administration. Page 345 reads: Ordered by the Court that Wiley Brown, John Lee & Hosea Bateman be appointed commissioners to lay off one years provisions for Lucretia Davidson, widow of George Davidson deceased & make report to the next term of this Court. Page 351 reads: H.W. Page 353 reads: The commissioners appointed to lay off one years provision to Lucretia Davidson widow of George Davidsn dec'd returned to December Court 1838 an assignment of a years provision which was approved by the Court & ordered to be recorded. Page 376 reads: Henry W. Derryberry one of the administrators of the Estate of George Davidson dec'd returned an account of sale of a Negro girl Solo under an order of the Circuit Court which was received by the Court and ordered to be recorded. (This was ordered on February 1839.) George and Lucretia issue: 1) Mary A. born about 1791 married Thomas Brockman, living in Polk County, Missouri, in 1843. 2) Joshua born July 11, 1793 - died October 13, 1850 according to his headstone in an old cemetery about one mile south of Geo. Washington Carver monument in Newton County, Missouri. He married Elizabeth Glover November 25, 1819, in Maury County, Tennessee. He moved his family to Washington Township, Newton County, Missouri, before son Stephen was born in 1833. Ten other children, including son, George, and daughters Mary, Sarah, and Nancy. 3) Bracket born November 17, 1796 - died September 29, 1863 was born in V irginia, and married Delilah Hardison August 3, 1817, Maury County, Tennessee. Issue - 14 children, including Joshua (1835-1908). Moved to Polk County, Missouri, around 1838 where he died and was buried in Atterbury Cemetery, Dallas County, Missouri. 4) Sally born ca. 1798 - died before 1841 married George Davidson in Maury County, Tennessee, about 1815. One issue, Miles Davidson, born about 1816 according to Census of Polk County, Missouri, 1850, where grandmother Lucretia, 81, was living with him, a wife, and one child. 5) Nancy married Peter Lawrence. Both deceased in 1843 or before. Issue Lucy and Hannah, minors in 1843. 6) Susan born ca. 1816, Tenn - ??? married a Johnson man, lived in Kentucky when their daughter Lucretia was born (1835); in Tennessee when daughter Mary was born 1837; and Missouri when last four children were born (1848-1846). 7) Miles was an orphan in 1841, entitled to his mother's share of the George Davidson estate. Miles was Lucretia and George Davidson's grandson (son of their daughter Sally Davidson and her husband who was a George Davidson). On March 11, 1846, Lucretia gave a Bill of Sale of personal property (recorded in Book Am, page 438, in Newton County, Missouri, Courthouse) which reads: In consideration of the natural and affection which I have toward my grandson Milas (sic) Davidson, I give all my goods, chattles, money, and effects of whatever nature-one yoke oxen, one wagon, 2 feather beds, all the furniture household and kitchen. It was signed X her mark. She was 77 years old. In 1850, the Census shows that Lucretia was age 81, living in Polk County Missouri, with Miles Davidson, age 34; his wife Sarah, age 22; and son George W., age 2. Miles had bought 40 acres in section 31, township 34, range 21, in Polk County, Missouri, from Durette Barclay for $50 on June 28, 1834. Durette's wife was Lucretia Davison, daughter of Delilah and Bracket Davidson who lived near Miles' new land purchase. His aunt, Mary A. (Davidson) Brockman, also lived in Eastern Polk County. That cemetery was bull-dozed out when a new highway was constructed many years later. My brother, Gus, and I talked to the present owner who showed me some of the broken stones. The 1820 Census of Maury County gave George and Lucretia's ages as over 45, which meant born before 1775. She was 51. The 1830 Census of Maury County lists George and Lucretia in age group 60-69, indicating their births between 1761 and 1770. On November 26, 1834, George Davidson had bought 70 acres on Flat Creek for $140 from William K. Hill. (Hill's original grant No. 452). This tract adjoined the Polk place on the South. George sold 220 acres on Flat Creek September 12, 1835, to Joseph Powers for $800 and signed his mark. Next, he sold 90 acres to William Williford on Little Flat Creek, October 14, 1835. Lucretia was sixty-nine years of age when her husband, George Davidson, died in Maury County, Tennessee. Their sons, Joshua and Bracket, had moved their families to Missouri - Joshua to Newton County about 1833 and Bracket to Polk County in 1837. Lucretia had moved to Newton County, Missouri, to be with (or near) her eldest son, Joshua. He was given the Power of Attorney by and for George's heirs on May 24, 1841; June 14, 1841; and June 1, 1843. In 1841, Joshua Davidson, son of George Davidson who had died in 1838, was given Power of Attorney to settle the estate of George Davidson, deceased. The following documents were executed- "To Joshua Davidson, Power of Attorney, from: I, Bracket Davidson of the County of Polk and State of Missouri do make, constitute, and appoint Joshua Davidson of Newton County and State aforesaid my true and lawful attorney for me and in my name and for my use to ask, demand, and sue for cover and receive all sum or sums of money debts in any wise coming to me from the estate of my father, George Davidson, deceased of the State of Tennessee and County of Maury, etc.-in witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this 14th day of June A.D. 1841. Bracket Davidson" (Recorded Maury County, p 157, Vol 1, Book Y, August 4, 1841) "To Joshua Davidson, Power of Attorney from Lucretia Davidson widow of George Davidson, deceased formerly of Maury County, Tennessee, Mary Davidson and Susan Johnson, heirs and daughters of said George Davidson, deceased and Miles Davidson, son of heirs of Sally Davidson, deceased, who was also a daughter of George Davidson, deceased, all of the County of Newton, State of Missouri." her (signed) Lucretia X Davison mark her Mary X Davison mark her Susan X Johnson mark her (his?) Miles X Davison mark On the 24th day of May, 1841, personally appeared before me, William Sexton, Clerk of the County Court of Newton County, Lecresia Davison, Mary Davison, Susan Johnson, and Miles Davison, who are known to me to be the persons who signed and sealed the foregoing instrument. (All spelling as in the record, p 158, Vol 1, Book y, reg) The above and other instruments indicate that Bracket and his father's people changed the spelling from Davidson to Davison and must have made that decision in the early 1830's while still in Tennessee. 2. Mary Afraid not. My Andrew was "Born in Virginia" in 1825, moved to Ohio and married Clarinda Barnes Mix in 1845. They moved from Ohio to Iowa, near Madrid and live there until he died in 1900. I have never been able to find his father or just where he was "born in virginia" Dick

    3. Hello from Missouri! This is a long shot, but my great great granddad was Andrew Jackson Davidson. He was born in Alabama, according to census records around 1825. He married and lived in Giles County, Tennessee for a time, and then moved to Chico, Texas. Is there a chance that there is a connection? Thanks for your time.
