I had great uncles that fought on both sides. The CW was a great tragedy on both sides. Probably worse than the RW because we had brothers fighting brothers and in some cases they did not even know who they were killing but others like my great great grandfather was shot in the stomach by a rebel as he was walking to KY to join his unit after going home to TN to see his wife and eight daughters. Last words were Bill, why did you shot me?!! Bill had never shot a man, took my grandfather home and buried him two weeks later just 20 miles from his family.
There were so many Davidsons that they named Counties after them, a college in North Carolina and the middle name of John D Rockefeller.
What is true? I am looking for Davidsons from Virginia/Tennessee not Davisons from England at least not yet I have to know where I came from before I can tell where I am going! William C was in TN most of the 1800s and fought in the CW in the Tennessee Infantry. Married Permelia Jane Taylor.

You can try the Daughters of the American Revoultion site at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~genea/Ddarlineage.html Just look at the descendent line to see which Ancestor the member is related to. It may take some patientce. Isn't that interesting? My great-great-grandparents Thomas Davidson married to Catherine Davidson had a daughter Mary J and a son James -- but neither ever married. In fact, their eldest daughter Mary J. (my grandmother called her "Aunt Mae", as in "Aunt Mae ruled the roost") stayed with her parents at "the old home place" until they had both died (location: town of Albany, Pepin County, Wisconsin) and then she sold the farm and moved to Eau Claire. Brother James -- the 3rd child in a large family -- was up in Canada on a wheat farm when his mother Catherine died in 1899 -- so noted in her obituary -- but he never married either and at the time of his death was living at the same residence in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Both were very old when they died. Interesting coincidence of names...but not my connections, unfortunately. Freda J Zimmerman Griffin
Hi, English Davidson here(Via Davidsons of Scots-Irish descent). Just curious as to the numbers of Davidsons involved in the War of Independence. Were they mostly Loyalists? Does anyone know of any Davidson ancestors who fought in the conflict, loyalist or not? Thanks for any help.
The only VA Davidson I know is my father here in England: Vaughan Alexander Davidson. True!
Am looking for g.grandfather John J. Davidson, he married a Mary G. (maiden name unknown). Know some of his daughters married above surnames. Know that all the daughters and one son where born in Nebr. Lived at Dakota Junction, Nebr and then Long Pine, Nebr. Later they moved to S.D. and are buried there. John J. Davidson was born 1856, and Mary G. 1860. Any info would be greatly appreciated. and thank you in advance. email me at melvinbarbara@hotmail.com Thank you again Barbara
No, I only know the Davidsons in SWVA &ETN. But I am sure my Davidsons were not related to Norfolk Davidson within 4 or 5 generations because the ones in Scott Co were there 1754
Corrine, Linda at LCFlu@aol.com just wrote about a "box of treasure" concerning the names you are looking for. PLEASE e-mail her immediately. I know she would be glad to tell you about it. F. Kay Hunter Roberts
Sandy and Joann... Suggest you check with Paul and Vicki as I find they have far more info into the Davidson line than I... The only Moses Davidson I'm aware of was b. abt 1830/35, son of Robt.L and Catherine Hillard Davidson. Best of luck... Check pkd <paulkdavis@earthlink.net> or <vickid@link2000.net> Someone's cousin, Charlie
Do you know anything about VA Davidsons? My GG Grandfather James T. Davidson came from the Norfolk area to NY after 1870. He was married to a Mary Bowen or Bohan. We found him in the 1860 and 70 Census in Norfolk, VA but can't get him back any further than that.
Thank you so much! That is wonderful information and I will wait very patiently! I recently (July 6-9) was in Pepin County and Dunn County and visited the graves of relatives in various cemeteries. Some of the graves in the cemetery on the hill above Downsville, Dunn County, Wisconsin, had "OES" on them; others had easily recognizable Masonic symbols. Again, thank you very much! It may be someone else's James Davidson, but mine is the son of my great-great-grandfather Thomas Davidson Sr. "My" James Davidson, my great-grandfather Thomas Davidson Jr.'s brother, was born September 6, 1858 (probably in or near Vernon, Waukesha County, Wisconsin) and died January 1, 1930 in Mondovi, Buffalo County, Wisconsin (although his residence at the time was Eau Claire). Interesting. I have a Henry McCreary DAVIDSON b. abt 1906 died 23 Jan 1913 Checotah, McIntosh Co., OK son of John Wesley DAVIDSON (1853 IN - 1915 OK) and Nancy Emma EDMONDS (1861 TN - abt 1907 OK). I know they are long way from PA but that McCreary name caught my attention. My Henry was the youngest and only son of John Wesley DAVIDSON. As you can tell, he died when he was 7 years old. There may be some connection. Colleen
Dear Lister (FJXCLU@aol.com) You may find out the Eastern Star (OES) history of your relatives by contacting their Grand Secretary for Wisconsin. If you are not familiar with it, this organization is related to the Masonic Fraternity and you may be able to get the address from the OES Chapter Secretary at your nearest Masonic Lodge. There is a Lodge at Menomonee. Otherwise, you could ask the Grand Lodge Secretary for the address of the OES Grand Secretary: George A. Wallinger, P.G.M. Grand Lodge Office 36275 Sunset Drive Dousman, WI 53118 Tel: (262) 965-2200 Fax: (262) 965-4211 E-Mail: glwisc@freemasonry.org Good luck with your research. The Masonic organization is a wonderful place for genealogy information. For example, you should be able to determine the Masonic sponsor of your female relatives who were in OES and, perhaps, discover other members of the family. Bear in mind that, in many cases, these Grand Offices are not well-staffed and that their older records may not be on a computer. Therefore, a little patience is prudent. Don Davidson Los Alamos, NM
