    2. Dear Mary, I will try to sort out the date confusion in your letter to me. I just cut and pasted your note to me on this e-mail to save time. Look below the following note for my explanation. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subj: Re: [DAVIDSON-L] William Davidson From:    rmbonsal@vzinet.com (Mary Bonsal) Whoa!!! wait a minute... you stated that William R. Davidson was born 19 Sep 1835 in Georgia and died 29 Jul 1891 in Georgia. David Davidson wasn't born until 1808??????? William Davidson that married Elizabeth Mayes was a son of John Davidson and Tabitha.  William and brother Samuel both married an Elizabeth Mayes, cousins and went to Illinois. Their brother John Davidson died in Jasper County, Georgia. Their sister, Mary Davidson m. Gilbert Shaw, brother Joseph Davidson m. Mary Park, sister Jean m. James Park, Elizabeth m. John Leeper, Mary B. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Mary, There are just so many Williams, John's etc. All of the above information is correct. It goes like this: John Davidson (1761 - 1856) was born in PA to John and Tabitha (?) Davidson. He moved with his parents to SC as a young boy -- he fought in the Revolution -- then moved to Georgia after the war. John died in Jasper County, Georgia at the age of 95. John had several brothers and sisters. Two of his brothers were Samuel (1774 - 1843) and William Davidson (1776 - 1837). Samuel and William were both born in Union District, SC -- married the Mayes cousins -- moved to Illinois after the Revolution. John Davidson (1761 - 1856) of Jasper County had a son named David Davidson who was born 1808 in Georgia. David Davidson had a son named William R. Davidson who was born September 19, 1835 in Georgia and died July 29, 1891 in Georgia or Alabama. (At least until the time of his death, William R. was in Georgia. He may have died at the home of one of his children in Chamber's County, Alabama. I believe that Chamber's County, Alabama is near where he lived in Georgia.) Bottom line -- John Davidson of Jasper County had a father named John -- a brother named William -- a son named David -- and a grandson named William R. Davidson. There are two separate William Davidsons that you mentioned above. That is one reason I always use the middle initial R (as W.R. Davidson of Georgia did). I hope this helps explain why you thought the dates were wrong. If not, write to me and I will send you a personal e-mail and we will work through it. Thanks, again, for your great work. Sincerely, Anna Gayle

    1. [DAVIDSON-L] Davidson/Davison Census Information?
    2. Dear Mary and Davidson Family Researchers, I am puzzled about several things on the census site for the Davidson - Davison Family. Would someone be kind enough to help me sort some things out? First of all, I was looking through the 1860 Chamber County, Alabama census and was thrilled to find William R. Davidson and his family. However, I was really surprised to see my name as the contact person. The census information seems correct and I do believe they are my ancestors. As the census states, William R. did have a daughter named Martha (Mattie) C. Davidson and a son named John Sidney Davidson. The age the 1860 census gives for the children in his household is a perfect fit with my family records for Mattie and John. (Added note: William R. later had four more children.) Until I saw the above census, I did not know the name of William R. Davidson's wife. The Davidson/Davison census says she is Mary M. Davidson. (Actually, I thought she was Kate Hammond -- but could never substantiate any name for her. The only records I have refer to her as Mrs. W. R. Davidson.) I am pleased over the above "discovery, however, l am wondering how this census information gets on our website. Until I saw my name, I thought the information was from the official census records. I simply do not remember submitting this information -- especially since I have done limited research in Alabama. My focus has been in Georgia, since William R. Davidson and his family were born and died in Georgia. It is exciting to know that they must have lived in Alabama for a few years. I do know that land in Blufton/Chambers County, Alabama was mentioned in the will of David Davidson (father of William R.). Another part of my puzzle is that the 1860 census on our web site gives the names of the father and mother of William R. Davidson. (It says his mother is Susan Carolina, although I think her middle name was Caroline.) Did this information come from the actual 1860 census for Alabama -- or were their names given from some other source? Last question: On the census it says "Contact Anna Gayle" -- each of the words are underlined, but in different columns. When I click the word "contact" information about Texas comes up. (I have absolutely no information about Texas) Why is that? If I click the word "Anna Gayle" -- then my e-mail address comes up. Why is that? Bottom line -- how "official" are all of the census records in the Davidson/Davison Resource Site? Is the information from the actual census or from other Davidson researchers -- like myself? Is the information, perhaps, a combination of the two? You can contact me at AnnaG1938@aol.com Thank you in advance for your time and consideration, Anna Gayle DAVIDSON McClure
