    3. I know it's on the list of many members. I also wrote to Mary and asked her to virus scan her computer and the server. I just recieved a message from her that said she had the virus on her computer and the server and both have been cleaned up. So we don't have to worry for now. 3. I think I can shed some light on at least one source of virus problem. If you receive anything from "webzone.net" delete it. I unsubscribed from Davidson-L when my former ISP server "webzone.net" was bought out by Earthlink/Mindspring, and re-subscribed with "mindspring.com." I don't know how or why, but apparently the phantom worm attached itself to my address book. I didn't turn my computer on until after 7pm Tues (when all of this started), however when I did I was inundated with returned/"undeliverable messages" all with the "webzone.net" return addy that had been sent out that morning. [Webzone.net has not been my ISP server for several months.] At first I checked to see who was bouncing back and recognized a few of the names and addy's, or supposed contacts, but the majority I did not, and finally started deleting the messages as fast as I could. NOTE: my email addy is domuff@mindspring.com. It is impossible for me to send anything via webzone.net, they are defunct. Apparently my new server is "forwarding" messages from webzone.net , as I am receiving duplicate messages from the same sources. Would it be possible for someone, who knows how, to unsub my webzone.net again? I apologize for the inconvenience and pray that something terrible didn't/doesn't happen/ed to anyone's computer. One good thing, after running the virus scan, then deleting the system%\CP_25389.NLS file, and the registry value: kernel32, and finally the registry value as per instructions at http://housecall.antivirus.com/ re Worm_badtrans.B. After restarting the system there were not any further incidences. So hopefully the problem has been taken care of. I did find out that this particular virus/worm is rated as a low risk and not destructive. Easy for them to say. It's been a nightmare. There is a list posted of all the viruses to watch for at http://vil.mcafee.com/hoax.asp I remain baffled, until next time, domuff@mindspring.com PS My McAfee doesn't indicate that I ever had a virus. I checked out Norton Anti Virus site and decide to download the free trialware, but was intercepted with a notice that the software was not certified (doesn't have a certificate), so the authenticity of this software cannot be verified, and might not be safe to install and run on my computer. So I did not proceed to download/install the software. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jinx Dopson" <jdopson@bellsouth.net> To: <DAVIDSON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, November 28, 2001 2:20 PM Subject: Re: [DAVIDSON-L] virus Norton picked up on mine .......... 1. [DAVIDSON-L] John T. Davidson - Louisiana - Mid 1800's
    2. Bill - I did obtain a copy of the marriage license. However, being a novice at this, I did not think to also request a copy of an application for same. I will go through the process again and see if they have such a document. Thanks for the suggestion. In the meantime, if anyone comes across any information on John T. Davidson and his wife, Peter Ann Ivy, please let me know. Going through the paper trail from the Netherlands to the good ol' USA and back to the Netherlands is about a four-month process. 1. [DAVIDSON-L] Please update your virus protection
    2. LDKD
    3. Dear List: This is Kay. My virus protection, Norton Antivirus, has been intercepting messages that contain the W32 virus. This message is to implore all of you to make sure your virus protection is up-to-date so that all the hard work all of you have completed is not messed up by the most current seige going around. The virus that was detected is the W32.Badtrans.B@mm virus. This virus is going around in grand style. If you have any questions please go to http://www.norton.com website and check out this virus. On the personal side, I had McAffee virus protection and it failed to detect a virus that really messed up our computer. After the last viral infection we talked with the techs at our local computer store and they highly recommended Norton Antivirus, Norton SystemWorks, Norton Internet Security as programs that detect viruses much better than McAffee. I am not a rep for Norton, nor am I talking any other virus protection provider, but I am thankful that it is saving all the work I've done on the family and our other computer work. For those of you who are happy with McAffee, I am happy for you and would heartily endorse any improvements they made in their virus protection program. If you receive any email message with an underscore in front of the address, such as _ldkd95@skeynet.net do not open it (also do not us this hypelink, it will bounce back to you). All of you have no idea how much I love receiving messages from you so this message is not a complaint, it is an advance notice of problems I've been working to resolve. God bless you all. Respectfully yours, Kay Davidson

    3. Barbara, Pharmacists must be another genetic trait in the Davidson families. Harry Simpson Davidson was a Pharmacist in Akron, OH. As far as the castle goes; there was a Davidson castle in Scotland. We have an old picture of the ruins. 3. Dear Barbara, I am lookeing for a William who I think was born 13.3.1853 in Kirkcaldy, Fife. I have his ancestry - but I don't know of descendants. He's not in the 1881 census, so I don't know if he emigrated or did not survive. His parents remained in Scotland.
