    3. Hello Kay, I'm sorry to say, but what I outlined in my email to the list is about all I know of the Davidson's to this point. I'm still trying to track down the children of Samuel & Mary. There is a lady who's trying to track Samuel down in the 1850 census for all parts of Ohio. There seems to be quite a few Davidson's in the state during that period. I'm sure you have but I'll ask anyway, have you tried using the LDS site, Rootsweb, or using a search engine to find family websites? Just a thought. 2. Ruth Highland
    3. Hello all, This is my first time to post here. I'm in North Central WV & have many families I'm working on, but for now I'm trying to find further information on my great-great grandparents, Samuel DAVIDSON & his wife, Mary Christina MCBRIDE. This is what I have so far. Any further help anyone can provide on this family would be greatly appreciated!! Ruth Bush-Highland SAMUEL DAVIDSON was born 1835 in Toronto, Canada (according to his obit), and died March 11, 1905 in Clay Center, Clay Co.,KS. He married MARY CRISTENA MCBRIDE November 18, 1859 in Noble Co.,OH. She was born 1836 in OH, and died 1921 in Clay Center, Clay Co.,KS (the dates of birth & death are from her headstone). I don't have an obit for her, but they had children who lived in Clay Center where he died & she was probably with them when she died. This census lists all of their children: As you can see from this census, his place of birth is Ohio; that creates a problem in trying to locate the names of his parents. A friend did a look up of 1850 census in Ohio & sent me one that Samuel would have been "about" the right age. However, the father on that census was born in PA. I have a later census, 1900 RILEY Co.,KS, Bala Township that says Samuel's father was born in Canada & his mother in Ireland. 1880 RILEY COUNTY, KANSAS May Day Township Davison, Samuel w m (45) Farmer Ohio -0- -0- Davison, Mary w f (44) wife Keeps House Ohio Ohio Ohio Davison, Charles w m (18) son Works on Farm Ohio Ohio Ohio Davison, Matilda w f (16) dau At Home Ohio Ohio Ohio Davison, Martha w f (13) dau Ohio Ohio Ohio Davison, Mary w f (13) dau Ohio Ohio Ohio Davison, Amanda w f (11) dau Ohio Ohio Ohio On the above census, Matilda Belle is my great grandmother, my dad's grandmother. She married Archibald Columbus BUSH; they stayed in Kansas, Clay Center, for many years & came back to WV in the early 1900's so she could be treated for breast cancer at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. I have no further information on any of the children except one. I received a photo of Samuel & Mary's headstone & also located with them was one daughter & her husband; the daughter's name on the stone was FRANKIE. I will also include the obituary for Samuel if it could prove of further use to anyone who might have additional information. OBITUARY: March 16, 1905-Leonardville, KS Monitor Died - Thursday, March 9, 1905 in Clay Center, Samuel Davidson aged 68 years. The deceased was born in Toronto, Canada. Later moved to Ohio & from that state, entered the army & served during the civil war. After the war, about 30 years ago, he & his family came to Kansas, locating at May Day. They moved from there to Green & from Green came to this city, about 13 years ago. While here, Mr. Davidson & his family conducted the City Hotel. About a year ago they sold the hotel & went down into Oklahoma where Mr. Davidson & his son, Charles, had claims. During the winter, Mr. & Mrs. Davidson have been staying in Clay Center with relatives. Mr. Davidson was a member of the M. E. Church & also of the Masonic Lodge. He was the father of 5 children, four of whom are left together with the bereaved wife to mourn his loss. His was a long life of hard work & the last 3 or 4 years brought him much suffering. It is thought his ailment was cancer of the stomach, though his physicians were not positive. The body was brought here Saturday even & cared for over night at the home of P. J. Stafford. The funeral service occured on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Garfield Lodge A. F & A. M escorted the body to the M. E. Chuch which was tastefully decorated for the occasion. Organist & choir rendered appropriate music & Rev. J. M. Ryan conducted this service, using for his text Job 14:10. The sermon was elequent & helpful, worthy of the ocassion. The lodge marched at the head of the funeral procession to the cemertery where they used their beautiful ritual service in laying away the body of their brother.

    2. William Samuel Davidson was born August 7, 1811, probably in Buncombe (or Haywood) County, North Carolina. He died July 5, 1893. He married Elizabeth Marindah (Manda) Roberts on February 3, 1842. Manda was born June 12, 1824. Both are interred in Unaka Cemetery in Cherokee County, North Carolina. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/FNR.2ACEB/1652.2.1 Message Board Post: Frieda, an expert on this Daniel Davidson family is Sue Elfving, and she sees no connection whatsoever between this family and the family of David and Elizabeth Davidson who had Philemon Davison in PA in 1785. The first proven member of "Sue's family" was James Davidson "I." You can see some lineages and some DNA results for two known members of this family at : http://www.tqsi.com/davidsongenes/results.php See members/donors 22069 and 31039. It should be noted that the other families that are shown "lumped together" with the above two people (immediately above and below them on the DNA website) are NOT an exact DNA match to them. Hence, those other families probably do NOT share a common ancestor with Sue's family members, going WAY, WAY BACK. In addition, there is no known documentation on this side of the Atlantic Ocean that seems to connect those other families to Sue's family in any way.

    1. Which James is he referring to?
    2. Hi Florence, I forgot to ask you in my last e-mail which James Davidson, William Davidson & John Davidson was James Alfred Davidson referring to? Also who was William Samuel Davidson's b. 1811 father & mother? There are so many James, Williams & Johns that without birth & death dates I am having difficulty placing them. Also who is their mother & father which would be helpful to me. Do you already have that information or should we ask him? I don't remember it on your genealogy listing. I don't have it so I can't pinpoint them. I guessed that William might be the one born in 1772 whose mother & father were: John Abner DAVIDSON & Nancy Porter. I never had the name of William's wife. Do you know if that is the correct placement? Would you please share the information if you have it? Thanks, Sharon In a message dated 4/23/2006 1:16:00 PM Pacific Daylight Time, FLOBHN writes: The record I copied shows James Davidson married Nancy Isbell on April 4, 1800 in Iredell County. I also made some other notes that day: William Davidson married Nancy Boyt on December 28, 1799 ( I didn't note the county) John Davidson married Nancy Givens in 1793 in Lincoln County, North Carolina My great grandfather William Samuel Davidson had a mother named Nancy. He was born in 1811 so any one of the above Nancy(s) was at a reasonable age to be his mother. I am looking for the Davidson that Nancy _________? married. He will be my great great grandfather.
