Anna, Let me try to help you. If you would like to talk about it, please write me privately with your phone number and best times to call and I would be glad to answer all of your questions. (To other people on the Davidson list... this offer on a phone call is open to anyone. ) Let us start here... this is the web site where an order may be placed. http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=Y70310&special=True&projecttype=S You can also call them and order over the phone. There is a number on the page I just referenced. PLEASE make sure they know it is for the Davidson Project if you call them. That way you will get the discounted pricing. Next, Fill out the form for the person being tested and their name and address as that is where they will mail the kit to. Put in your email address so the email correspondence will go to you. We will pick up the information as soon as it is in their system and get you registered with the www.davidsongenes.org site. When your brother gets the kit, all he needs to do is swab the inside of his cheek twice - about 8 hours apart. and mail them back in to the company. IMPORTANT... Make sure that he signs the permission form so that his data can be compared with the others in the database. It takes about 6-9 weeks now for the results to come back. All of the rest of the correspondence is by email (except they will send your brother a certificate with the results by postal mail). Third, what test to order. The best test to order based on what we are learning now is the 37 marker test. But it does not matter. If you order the $99 12 marker test, you will have some indication of what family group you might be in. BUT... you will need at least a 25, but preferably a 37 or 59 marker test to be able to see what twig you are on. If you order one test, you can order an upgrade at any time and no new sample is required. You just go to the web site and order the upgrade and they reprocess the original sample submitted. I am giving these prices as some of these group discount prices are not available on the web site unless you are ordering them. 12 Marker male Y-DNA test is $99 at group rates 25 Marker $148 37 Marker $189 59 Marker $269 Upgrade Pricing Refine 12 to 25 $49 12 to 37 $99 12 to 59 $189 25 to 37 $49 25 to 59 $148 37 to 59 $99 As an aside, anyone who has been tested, I recommend that they upgrade to 37 markers. We have recently found that some 12 marker matches are proving not to hold one more markers are analyzed and people are getting false matches. I would like to see some more people who descend from John Goolman Davidson get tested as we have gotten a very unexpected result from the one person who was tested. Again, if anyone would like to chat about this on the phone, email your phone number privately and I will give you a call. john. I tried the link you listed and could not connect to the site. Please re-submit the link. Thanks, K
This is for Bill Davidson or anyone else who can help me understand the Davidson DNA tests. I am going to have a kit (?) sent to my brother, John Davidson, for DNA testing. I went to the Davidson web site, but still feel very confused. I need the kit sent to John in Florida. However, I am the researcher and live in another state. Also, John doesn't have access to a computer at this time. I probably should talk to someone at the DNA Davidson web site about how to handle this. Do you know who I can talk to? I am eager to get it going. Also, I want John to have the most thorough or accurate test recommended. Any suggestions as to the type of test that would be the best? My Davidson ancestors were from Pennsylvania and South Carolina (before the American Rev.). After the Rev., my direct ancestor moved to Jasper County, Georgia. His name was John Davidson, too. Surnames: Davidson, Enochs, Portwood, Hunter, Bryan, Benefiel, Hume, Holloway Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FNR.2ACEB/3178.1.2 Message Board Post: I hope some of you Daniel Davidson descendents can help me. My gr.gr. grandfather Daniel Davidson and his wife Mary Enochs were living on Floyds Fork, Jefferson county in 1810 where they purchased land. I have the deeds from the courthouse. They sold the land in 1818 when they moved to Sullivan County, Indiana. One letter from a grandchild of Daniel and Mary state that Daniel was born in Culpepper county, Va. Have not been able to prove this. Mary Enochs was the daughter of Thomas Enochs and Nancy Ann Bryan who came from Rowan Co. N.C. and settled in Oldham county, Ky. My interest is in who Daniel's parents were. An earlier researcher (1930) stated he was the grandchild of Gen. Wm. Lee Davidson of N.C. This is regarded as an error. The researcher either got off on the wrong line or skipped a generation. Some believe he is the son of Daniel of Clay or Perry co. I was told family lost track of this Daniel after he left Ky. Daniel was born in 1786 in Virginia (census rec! ord) and died in 1865 at Carlisle, Indiana. He and wife Mary Enochs raised 10 children at Carlisle. George Davidson of Jessamine County and wife Mary Hunter are connected to this Daniel. George's children came to Carlisle after the death of the parents and entermarried with Daniel's family. They lived next door to one another and are regarded as near relatives. Destruction of the Davidson cemetery and a courthouse fire in Sullivan county has made this a very difficult task. Daniel and Mary seemed to use the naming pattern, therefore I have to consider his father could have been named John. Other family names from Kentucky which appear in the records are Portwood, Bryan, Benefiel, Hume, and Holloway. Do hope some of this rings a bell with any of you Davidson researchers out there. I have worked on this for 40 years with little luck. Mary Pielemeier

Sharon, I was recently sent some data that pertains to the identity of the James Davidson who married Nancy Isbell. I am looking for data on that family to see if it fits with this theory. And hopeful a male Davidson descendant for DNA testing. I can not share my evidence right now as I am not home but there is good circumstantial evidence that he may have been a son of Benjamin Davidson of Buncombe/Transylvania county. Part of the evidence is some data that indicated that James, s/o Ben, lived in (I believe) Wilkes county after his marriage and that James and Nancy were also said to have lived there. I have not tried to reconcile this with census, etc., as I have little data on the James and Nancy family. If anyone does have it, could you please share it with me either on the list or a report could be sent privately. thanks, john. Hi Florence, I think now that James Alfred Davidson has taken the DNA test it showed that he doesn't have a real fit yet--probably goes way back. He hasn't found the thread until he discovers who the mother & father were of Samuel S. Davidson. Have you had a chance to review what I sent you on James DAVIDSON & Nancy MARTIN Isbell Davidson? I thought it was kind of exciting to see which one she really was. I am now trying to sort out the Descendants of Johne Davidson that I found Tina Marie LOPER Harshbarger had on the Internet. There are only 20 pages including her endnotes. It looks like to me she descends from Alexander Davidson born in 1702; Alexander Davidson & Anna Bridges; Elijah Davidson; Elijah Jones Davidson & Anna Geneva Davidson; Ernest William, & Patricia Aileen Wright. She has nothing of significance in her information about James Davidson and nothing on Carter Tarent Davidson. I will just keep on searching.
