The four books cover pensions issued for wars from 1815-1926. This does not mean this was the war period entirely. It covers wars such as the Black Hawk War, the Creek Indian Removal, the Blackfoot Indian wars. I concentrate mostly on those which were in GA, AL, and FL. Alvie L. I'm sorry for the confusion. I don't know of any books for abstracts of the Indian War pension. I did a google search for Indian WArs and got all kinds of years. Can you tell me what time period you want to know about? Kathy

Hi Kathy I was not referring to Rev. War pensions for I know how to see them via many web sites. I was actually referring to the Indian War pension files which are indexed in Virgil White's four books. Alvie L. Davidson CG CG and Certified Genealogist are Service Marks of the Board for Certification of Genealogists used under license after periodic evaluations by the Board.
I don't know if there is a transcribed version of the Davidson's in the RW Pension files, but you can view them through Heritage Quest yourself if your library subscribes to it. They are only the selected copies of the record files. Kathy
I have been looking over the two sets of books covering military service pension files and discovered many of these files are about soldiers or their widows who got pensions for Indian War service in GA, AL, and FL in the time frame of 1835-1855. Can anyone tell if there has been a concerted effort to get a collective copy of each of these records from NARA and transcribe them? I see several which concern men who lived in or near my ancestor John E. Davidson in Muscogee County, GA. Even though I think my John E. Davidson has military service which made him or his widow eligible for a pension neither he nor his widow applied for one. I would be willing to get these transcribed if we could get the copies. I know a researcher in the DC area who will make copies from the Archives at a very reasonable fee per file. What a gold mine this could be for families that have lost Davidson lineage in the early part of the 19th century in the south. Any suggestions? Alvie L. James, George Newton Davidson was a first cousin to my John H. Davidson and the William F. Davidson who seems to have had a son named George Newton Davidson. George's mother Caroline Hall married David Vance Davidson and was a sister of my Eliza Hall who married Abner Davidson. Abner and David were also related but their common ancestor was "Import John" Davidson of Ireland, Augusta Co., VA, and Iredell co. area of NC and died in 1748/9. Thanks for the insight on George Newton. john. At 09:44 PM 5/16/2006, James and Lisa Butts wrote: >I have a George Newton Davidson in my tree. Anna Gayle, Yes I bought the Family Tree DNA, I wish you would have bought the 59 marker, just to see If everything fully mached. Yes I think that It Is to late to change your order but you can add more to what you bought. I sure did received my DNA kit fast, about 4 days from when I ordered It online. Connie
I have used FamilyTreeDNA in Houston, TX. Alvie L. Davidson CG CG and Certified Genealogist are Service Marks of the Board for Certification of Genealogists used under license after periodic evaluations by the Board.
John, Thank you very much for the quick answer. I gather that you think the FAMILYTREE is a good company for getting DNA results. Do I enter my Davidson family information before the DNA tests are even done? Can I do it now? Lots of things going on in my household and my head is not always clear (husband developed a rare neurological disease a few months ago). I think someone told me to be sure that I request my results going to the Davidson DNA project. I cannot even remember if I did that. Do you know if there is a place to call for me to check "myself"? I did get a confirmation that I had ordered and paid for the 39 marker -- but that is all. How exciting this is for all of us. Anna Gayle
Anna Gayle, The Davidson surname project uses Family Tree DNA to do our testing and analysis. Everyone should be using them. Here is the web address for ordering kits: http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=Y70310&special=True&projecttype=S If you want to upgrade you need to log into your personal site. Remember, when you send in your sample to the lab for analysis, to sign the permission form. This is what will allow your data to be compared to other people's data. john. Anna Gayle, You can upgrade at any time. The kit is just a cheek swab to get a sample. The same sample can be used (and re-used) to perform almost all of the tests. Upgrading just means that they analyze more of the DNA sample. I think that waiting to get your results from a 37 marker test before upgrading is reasonable. However, anyone whose data matches a known family would likely get benefit from upgrading to the 59 markers. As we are learning from the results that are in so far, the 12 marker test is not very informative. It will tell you if you do not match a known family and may indicate what Haplogroup you are in. It will not tell you that you match a family as we have seen many 12/12 matches to completely different families. We have also seen 12/12 matches that become 19/25 matches when you upgrade to 25 markers. The greater number of markers that match, the higher the likelihood of a common ancestor. And eventually, with 59 markers, we will likely be able to recognize specific ancestor lines. It is important for the study that you submit your Davidson pedigree information, either on the web site www.davidsongenes.org or to Dave Koester at [email protected] john. Hi Anna, I'm Dave Koester, one of John Lisle's helpers on the Project. Since you are anxious to get your ancestor data recorded to the Davidson DNA Project site -- I will get you registered now so that you can go ahead an enter your data. OR -- as John Lisle suggested -- if you want me to enter it for you I am happy to do so. You would of course have to send the info to me and I would post it for your review. Look to receive my standard welcome letter with all the info you will need to proceed. I just saw that you, too, will be taking the DNA test AND have chosen to do the 59 marker. Connie Davidson Dage has done the same. Connie and I "think" we are from the same family. Our first ancestor (gggggrandfather) was from Pennsylvania -- then South Carolina. Then our ancestors split -- her Davidson went to Illinois after the American Revolution and his brother (my John Davidson) went to Georgia. Which company did you use? I went through FamilyTree and used a 37 marker. I cannot remember who on this research group suggested the above to me. Now, I am second guessing myself. I bought the kit for my brother -- maybe I could still call and pay the extra for the 59. When I ordered it, my understanding is 37 was all I needed. My brother (John E. Davidson from Florida) will be doing it for me. Please tell me what you think -- and anyone else connected to the FamilyTree project -- would love to hear AGAIN from you, too. Anna Gayle DAVIDSON McClure
Connie -- did you do the Family Tree DNA? This is the one I did. Anna Gayle
