    3. Ruth Kent, Based on DNA, "your" Davidsons in Pittsylvania Co., VA (brothers Abraham, John and Joseph, as I recall, all sons of an older John Davidson from NC, as well as a later man in that family named Samuel Harris Davidson who was born about 1795 in Pittsylvania Co., VA) were not related to my family. Two descendants of Samuel Harris Davidson have submitted their DNA, and their results do not match my results. As such, IF I should turn-out to be related to the Davidsons in Alabama of whom I spoke, then they would not be related to "your" family in Pittsylvania Co., VA. More research is needed, but I think that I MIGHT be related to the Edward, David and William Davidson who were in Goochland in 1746 and Buckingham in 1764 (per tithe lists and other documents). Some Davidsons who were in Pittsylvania Co., VA in the late 1760s-early 1770s (not "your" Davidsons) and then in Henry (and later Patrick) Co., VA in the 1770s and 1780s (and beyond) were almost certainly from the above "Goochland/Buckingham Davidsons." Some Davidsons in Stokes Co., NC and Grainger Co., TN, and then later Alabama, were also from that Davidson family in Henry/Patrick Co., VA. At this point in time, however, I can only suggest that the specific Josiah Davidson in Limestone Co., AL who was dead by 1850 and who was married to an Elizabeth Hardiman (who was supposedly from Buckingham Co., VA) MIGHT have also been a part of that same overall "Goochland/Buckingham Davidson family" (based on a couple of clues). There were also some Davidsons who were in Orange/Guilford Co., NC by 1780 who MIGHT have also been part of the "Goochland/Buckingham Davidsons" (and they MAY have come to NC from Henry Co., VA, but that is certainly not proven at this time). A descendant of that Davidson family in Orange/Guilford Co., NC is an exact DNA match to me, so that COULD be my "smoking gun" to a "family connection" back to the Davidsons in Goochland/Buckingham Co., VA. The research continues on that possibility. Best regards, Bill Davidson

    3. Is there any connection of these "Alabama" Davidsons to the John Davidson, son of John and Hannah Hughson Davidson of Halifax/Pittsylvania County, VA. This John was supposed husband of Mary Wallace and other researchers say he died in Huntsville, Madison County, Alabama in 1815. Son, John Wallace Davidson, then went to Humpreys/Benton Co., TN to live with Aunt Lucy (Lucinda) Davidson Perkins. John Wallace Davidson may have had brothers, Abraham and William. Could "Willis" and "Wallace" be connected? Throwing in another question. A Lucy Davidson married Andrew Wallace who went to Hempstead Arkansas in the very early 1800's. Andrew died in 1834. Lucy Davidson Wallace died in 1860 in Hempstead, Ark. A son, John H. Wallace born ca 1827 in Arkansas and is on the 1850 census for Hempstead living with Lucy. Also living with Lucy Wallace in 1850 is a Josiah Davidson, age 24, born in Tennessee. (I have some thoughts about Josiah but no proof). In 1860, John H. Wallace is in Hempstead, but must have been in Alabama for several preceding years. He is married to Elizabeth born in Alabama and has 5 children (ages 1-7) all born in Alabama. Can anyone provide clarification? [email protected] wrote: This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FNR.2ACEB/1881.1 Message Board Post: A branch of what I call "the original Buckingham Co., VA Davidsons," headed by a William Davidson who was born about 1720 or so, moved to Pittsylvania Co., VA before 1773, and that area became part of Henry Co., VA about 1777. The Davidson land in Henry became part of Patrick Co., VA about 1791. Some members of this particular branch of this Davidson family lived just across the state line in Stokes Co., NC by the 1780s, and several members of this family eventually moved to Grainger Co., TN. Note: The above William Davidson had apparent brothers named Edward Davidson and David Davidson. Edward died in Campbell Co., VA around 1794 and David died in Buckingham Co., VA by 1798. William Davidson had a son with the unusual name of Goulder Davidson (sometimes shown as Golder or Golden). Goulder was named, no doubt, because his father William Davidson had apparently married a Hix women (and Goulder was a name used in that Hix family....the Davidson and Hix families were on the 1746 tithe list in Goochland Co., VA). Goulder Davidson and some of his friends and relatives eventually moved to the Morgan, Madison and Marshall Co., AL area. Limestone Co., AL is in that same area, so that is one clue that "your" Josiah Davidson MIGHT have been a member of this family. Another clue is that the 1850 Limestone Co., AL census shows a man named Willis R. Davidson who was born in VA. Back in Patrick Co., VA, a William Willis had married Levinia Davidson in 1795, and Levinia was a daughter of Goulder Davidson's apparent brother David Davidson. In addition, a man named Davidson Willis was on the 1830 Morgan Co., AL census, along with Allen Davidson, Joshua Davidson (known son of Goulder Davidson....so I'm told by a descendant), Richard Davidson, William Davidson and Henry Davidson. Note: Goulder and David Davidson had apparent brothers back in VA named William "Junior," John and Richard Davidson, and these last three men also appeared in some Henry Co., VA records. The above Davidson family has been traced with some certainty back to a David and/or William Davidson, who both died in James City Co., VA (JCCo) in 1687. The David Davidson in JCCo left naturalization papers there that show that he was born in Holland. I SUSPECT that I am also related to this family, but research on that continues. My DNA haplotype shows that I have a "Viking heritage," and it appears that only a small percentage of all Davidsons have that haplotype. The above David Davidson in JCCo had a son who was also named David Davidson (died 1756 in Charles City Co., VA). Records show that this "second" David Davidson was closely associated with a Thomas Hix, and Thomas Hix was part of the same overall Hix family that was also in Goochland Co., VA in the 1730s and 1740s (and Goulder Hix appeared on the 1746 tithe list in Goochland). 3. I would strongly suggest you request the death record for Mr. Davidson and then get his obituary from the newspaper in the library. If he died in Broward County, his obituary would probably be in the Fort Lauderdale Sentinel. I can give you the name of a man who lives in Gainesville, FL who accesses newspapers at the U of FL library for a small fee. Chris Welch [email protected] The death record will cost $5 and send fee to : Florida Vital Records P O. Box 210 Jacksonville, FL 32231 Hope this helps. Alvie L. Davidson and Benjamin Davidson. Charles died in Los Angeles County (Code 19) on the date you provide without an entry for his mother's maiden name. Benjamin died in Los Angeles County (also Code 19) on the date you provide with Roth as his mother's maiden name. Searching further I found a Virginia Mae Guest born Illinois April 7, 1911, died in Los Angeles County (also Code 19) on October 12, 1997, with her father's surname Davidson and her mother's surname Roth. Perhaps she is a relative. If you have not previously done so, copies of the death certificates can be obtained from Vital Records, California Department of Health, located in Sacramento. The data would include place of residence, place of death, place of burial, as well as other information. It would then be possible to determine what LA County newspaper would be the best candidate for printing an obituary. The holdings of the California State Library in Sacramento include newspapers on microfilm printed in Los Angeles County during the years you are researching. The films are available on ILL. Records of births, deaths, and marriages recorded in California since July 1905 may be obtained from the Office of Vital Records, P.O. Box 730241, 304 S Street, Sacramento, CA 94244-0241; telephone recording 916-445-2684; fax 800-858-5553. For records of some earlier California births, marriages, and deaths, contact the county recorder of the county where the event occurred. I have found that the service and response time is better and faster by writing to the county where the event took place. Information about California vital records, including county recorder addresses, is available at http://vitalrec.com/ca.html. My Grandfather had a sister named May. In the 1910 census she is listed as LIZZIE M (the M could stand for May) AND my father told me that he knew his grandmother as ANNA...NOT Lilly. This is too much of a coincidence for me. ( Or am I grasping at straws here) All the ages are in track with the 1910 census and I know that grandfathers mother married many times. I have searched for a Joe..Joseph..Millbrey and Keith and this is what I could find for 1920. 1930 CENSUS My grandfather JOSEPH HARRIS KEITH is in Raleigh County, West Virginia listed as JOE KEITH with my grandmother ETHEL and their 1st child Lois. My father told me that my grandfather was supposed to have a brother named Richard that died in WW11. I am assuming that he had the last name of KEITH but I am not sure. My grandfathers family was very hush hush about everything and not too many...only me and my aunt know about him not really being born a Keith. Do you know of any KEITH adopting a Joseph H. "Millbrey" and his sisters name was Lizzie May.?? Is this too confusing??? The rumor is that Joseph Harris KEITH father...or adopted fathers name was Melvin or Marvin KEITH. I am not sure if he was adopted or took on the last name of KEITH. So if all this fits then my Great grandmother went from her maiden name of DAVIDSON...married a MILLBREY(as it was transcribed in the 1910 census in Tenn)...married a KEITH....( my grandfather had the KEITH name in the 1920 census in Kentucky)..married a ARTHUR...(as it was trandscribed in the 1920 Kentucky census) after that she married a man by the name of Penny Walls. The DAVIDSONS that Lilly belongs to are from JACKSON COUNTY, TENN. I do know that Lillys (Anna)as she went by later....brother HORACE DAVIDSON was living in RALEIGH COUNTY, WEST VIRGINIA...My father said he had a farm there. HORACE DAVIDSON passed away 01/04/1940. I hope that SOMEONE out there has information about her or her family. As I stated before she did not talk to her children or grandchildren about her life..... this is my brick wall. Please email me if you have any information about this family. Thank you, Connie

War hero General William Lee Davidson (no apparent relationship to the James Davidson who was in PA and then Bedford Co., VA). The college and county in NC were named for the General (ditto the county in TN, as I understand it). The General was the son of a George Davidson of PA, and George had a brother who is commonly called "Importation" John Davidson (who was in the Beverly manor area of Augusta Co., VA before moving to NC in the 1740s). I do not know, however, if different Simontons married into different Davidson families over the years.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FNR.2ACEB/3250.1.1.1 Message Board Post: A man named Stephen Davidson was born in GA in 1785, and the DNA of his living male descendant is a "match" to the DNA of another living male who descendends from an Abner Davidson of Bedford/Campbell Co., VA. It seems almost certain that Abner Davidson was a descendant of the James Davidson, Senior of PA and then Bedford Co., VA. These two living descendants are wondering what the "connection" was. It is unclear if James Davidson, Senior had a son who was in GA by 1785 or if James Davidson, Senior had a uncle/brother/cousin/nephew who was in GA by 1785. It is believed that the father of Stephen Davidson down in GA was named John Davidson. For whatever reason, Stephen Davidson was up in Buckingham Co., VA by at least 1808 when he married Lucy Neighbours there (and he does not appear to have been related to the other Davidson family that was in Buckingham). Stephen was then in Campbell Co., VA (which had been created from a part of Bedford Co., VA in 1782) by about 1824, and Stephen eventually moved to Ohio Co., KY (the 1850 census there shows that he was born in Georgia about 1785, but I do not know the county or town). This family spells the name "Davisson" today (not clear why the spelling changed). Maybe this apparent "Georgia connection" back to the James Davidson, Senior family in Bedford/Campbell Co., VA (and originally from PA) is further evidence that this is the same overall Davidson family of which you speak. I will keep my eyes open for a "Simonton connection."

I am sorry I don't have anymore information to give you. We are very interested in the John Simonton and how he might connect to other Simontons who were here in the "colonies" at that time. I know the Davidsons married into the Simonton family in Georgia. I bought several books about Talbot Co GA, "A Far Rockaway" written by a Davidson. You might try to contact some of the GA Davidsons and see what they know about their ancestors. I will keep and file your information. Thanks...

Another son named Samuel Davidson documented in his Rev. War pension application that the family was from PA.

    1. The Census Taker
    2. THE CENSUS TAKER It was the first day of census, and all through the land The pollster was ready..a black book in hand He mounted his horse for a long dusty ride His book and some quills were tucked close by his side A long winding ride down a road barely there Toward the smell of fresh bread wafting, up through the air The woman was tired, with lines on her face And wisps of brown hair she tucked back into place She gave him some water...as they sat at the table And she answered his questions...the best she was able He asked of her chidren...Yes, she had quite a few The oldest was twenty, the youngest not two She held up a toddler with cheeks round and red His sister, she whispered, was napping in bed He noted each person who lived there with pride And she felt the faint stirrings of the wee one inside He noted the sex, the color, the age The marks from the quill soon filled up the page At the number of children, she nodded her head And saw her lips quiver for the three that were dead The places of birth she "never forgot" Was it Kansas? or Utah? or Oregon...or not? They came from Scotland, of that she was clear But she wasn't quite sure just how long they'd been here They spoke of employment, of schooling and such They could read some and write some...though really not much When the questions were answered, his job there was done So he mounted his horse and he rode toward the sun We can almost imagine his voice loud and clear "May God bless you all for another ten years" Now picture a time warp...its' now you and me As we search for the people on our family tree We squint at the census and scroll down so slow As we search for that entry from long, long ago Could they only imagine on that long ago day that the entries they made would effect us this way? If they knew, would they wonder at the yearning we feel And the searching that makes them so increasingly real We can hear if we listen the words they impart Through their blood in our veins and their voice in our heart The author was Darlene Stevens ________________________________________________________________________ Check out AOL.com today.
