John Davidson and his sons mentioned in his will - Joseph, Abraham and John - is the family I am researching. I believe that the Nancy Chilton, daughter of Mark Chilton, was married to Abraham Davidson. Jooh left Potters Plantation and 200 acreswith it to be sold. To Joseph, he left 100 acres adjoining Potters; to Abraham 100 acres joining Joseph's line below it; to John 100 acres joining Samuel Harris line. To wife Hannah, he left 126 acres of land.... John's wife, Hannah, evidently remarried to a William Walter/Waters and in 1778 while living in Fincastle Co., KY, they sold to Abraham Davidson of Pittsylvania, 123 acres in Halifax. This appears to be the land he left her. John's land was on Jeremy's/Jeremiah/s fork of Birches Creek. According to the Virginia Genealogist, Vo.. 28, No. 3, July-Sept., 1984, Abraham Davidson and his wife Nancy, of Pittsylvania County, sold 100 acres in Halifax County for L1000 to an Abraham Cheatam. This land was on the south side of Burches Creek and was bounded by Shelton, John Davison and Evin. This Abraham appears to be the same Abraham later found in Humphreys Co., TN. I have found no further mention of Nancy other than that above. Ruth Bill Davidson <[email protected]> wrote: Per some posts on the Internet (and per some info from two living male Davidson DNA donors from this family), a John Davidson from NC (maybe Guilford or Bertie....or maybe both) had sons named Abraham, Joseph and John Davidson. The older John (the father) MAY have been married to Hannah Hughson, and this older John Davidson APPEARS to have been the son of yet an even earlier John Davidson. It seems that two of the three sons mentioned above married Shelton/Chilton women, daughters of Mark Shelton/Chilton of Pittsylvania Co., VA (per Mark's will). It is KNOWN from marriage records that John Davidson married Rachel Chilton in Pittsylvania Co., VA on 17 Oct 1786, and it is KNOWN that a second daughter of Mark Shelton/Chilton's named Nancy married another Davidson man (per Mark Shelton/Chilton's will, where he referred to his daughter Nancy as Nancy Davidson). There are currently two male DNA donors in the testing project who are known to be from the above Davidson family (both men are out of the above Abraham Davidson via his son named Samuel Harris Davidson). Per a "descendant line" provided by one of those two DNA donors, Abraham Davidson was married to a Sarah Ellis (not verified by me, and the other DNA donor is apparently not sure who Abraham's wife was). If the above should be correct, however, that would probably mean that Nancy Shelton/Chilton was married to Joseph Davidson (since we know that Rachel Shelton/Chilton was married to John Davidson). If the above should be incorrect, however, then maybe Abraham was married to Nancy Shelton/Chilton and maybe Joseph was married to a women from a different family. Note: There was also a Mary Davidson who married a Joel Shelton/Chilton, but I am not sure whose daughter Mary Davidson was, and I am not sure how/if Joel was related to Mark Shelton/Chilton. The above Joseph Davidson is shown on some posts on the Internet to have had Abraham Davidson II, and Abraham "II" was the one who married Keziah/Kisiah Tidwell. See, for example: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/message/rw/surnames.davidson/925.1.1.1.1.1 You can see the DNA results, plus some other information provided by the two DNA donors, at the Davidson/Davison/Davisson DNA website "results screen" at: http://www.tqsi.com/davidsongenes/results.php See "Family 4" and look at member/donors 54640 and 36704. If you "click" on the member/donor five digit number, you will be taken to another screen where more info on that member's line will be shown. You will note that there are also some OTHER members/donors shown within "Family 4" that match or nearly match these two men. The last that I heard, however, the "connection" between any of these other men and the above John Davidson family from NC/VA has not yet been determined (so if any of YOU see a "connection," please let me know.....Thanks)! No I don't but.... I've noticed a picture of a Edward Vick who appears to be a dwarf on page 364 of my copy of Vol. 2. Benton Co., TN. History. Scharlene, I'm very familiar with the Wyley Price Davidson family from Benton Co., TN., they are also related to my line thru Abraham T. Davidson. according to my research Wyley never had a son named John Travis Davidson. Do you have any more info on Travis Monroe Davidson's descendants? I notice you have him as John Travis Davidson, I can't find any other source that lists his first name as John. Is this recorded somewhere? I'm pretty sure we're talking about the same guy here. The Travis Monroe Davidson I'm familiar with is buried in Flatwoods Cemetery, Benton Co., TN. Travis Monroe Davidson would have been my 1st cousin 4 times removed. My John Davidson that I am looking for was married to an Eleanor. I have land purchasing records and custody records that put him in Kenton Kentucky and I also show a John Davidson that died in 1852 in Kenton Kentucky. Hi, Mary! John Davidson, the son of Richard who died in 1773, and Mary Ewing who moved her family to Fayette County, KY, was my ancestor. Marriage records show that John married Eleanor Ewing in 1778. His son, whom he named Richard, became a surgeon and married the daughter of a prominent New Yorker. Richard's father-in-law left an enormous collection of letters and writings that are in the New York Historical Society. The letters indicate John and Eleanor were still alive and well in 1828. I don't think this John Davidson was ever married to Susanah Jackson. Regards, Kerry Davidson

It appears that I have traced my family back to a David Davidson whose naturalization papers in Virginia show that he was born in Holland (and he died in VA In 1687). Do you know of any sources for information on the Davidson surname in the Holland/Sweden/Denmark area going back to the 1600s? I found one record on the Scottish Church in Holland, and that included a David Davidson who baptized two daughters there around 1650. I have no idea, however, if that was "my" David Davidson, but the wife's name in 1650 in Holland (Jean) was not the same as the wife of the David Davidson who died in VA in 1687 (Sarah). Thanks!
