    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Davidson, Barnes,Walker Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FNR.2ACEB/3297 Message Board Post: JERRY DAVIDSON, one of the pioneers of Worth County, was born in Harrison County, Ohio, September 1 , 1838, and was the son of Thomas L. and Rebecca Davidson, nee Walker, also natives of that county. In the fall of 1838 the family removed to Jay County, Indiana, and resided there for some eighteen years, coming thence to Missouri in 1856, and locating in Worth County. They were among the earliest settlers of this vicinity. The subject of this sketch was reared on a farm and received a common school education. December 9, 1860, he was married to Miss Catherine Barnes, daughter of James and Margaret Barnes. After this, Mr. D. settled on a farm, and in 1869 he moved upon his present place, which consists of 277 acres of land, with 100 acres in the home place. This is improved, with a fair house, and probably the largest bearing orchard in Northwest Missouri, containing 2,000 apple, 1,000 peach, 200 cherry and 50 pear trees, besides a variety of smaller fruits. The farm is located on section 25, township 66, range 32. Mr. and Mrs. Davidson have four children living. They have lost one. They are members of the Church of God. The Information on DNA website for 29638 is not correct since I tried to update it some time ago. It is being worked on but when I attempted to save the update on Elijah Barton Davidson, it seems it slipped away & all the data moved down. It definitely is not a correct reflection. I am sure it will be corrected soon. It also is not accurate now in the generation proofs also for the 2 Elijah Davisons. I am working with John to get it corrected. If anyone needs to know the correct information they can contact me. Sharon for Raynor (Davidson) Morrison.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FNR.2ACEB/1756.1 Message Board Post: I believe that Bryant/Briant Davidson was the son of John Davidson, and I believe that this family is the one that was in Pittsylvannia Co., VA by the late 1760s (they had come there from Buckingham Co., VA). I have traced that "Buckingham Davidson family" back to James City Co., VA in the 1680s. There was a William, a William "Junior," a John, a Richard and a Goulder Davidson on some of the Henry Co., VA tax lists between about 1777 and 1790 (and SOME of these names continued to show on the Patrick Co., VA tax lists into the early-1800s). Across the state line in Stokes Co., NC was one of their relatives named David Davidson, and by 1790, a David, a John and a Richard Davidson all appeared in Stokes on the census. I suspect that the above John Davidson in Henry Co., VA and then Stokes Co., NC (or his close relative) was the father of Bryant Davidson, and we know that a John Davidson was the bondsman for Bryant's wedding in 1816 in Grainger Co., TN (where David and Goulder Davidson are known to have also gone). It apears that Sarah (James) Davidson was age 56 and a widow on the 1850 Lawrence Co., TN census (living with a Joel Davidson, age 23, a William D. Davidson (age 20) and a Burwell Davidson (age 18)). I did not know that Jesse Davidson (who was in Lewis Co., TN in 1850) was associated with this family, but if he was involved with the estate of Bryant Davidson, then he was probably part of the family. I SUSPECT that John Davidson married a Miss Bryant in Henry Co., VA, and I note that there were two John Bryants (in separate households) who were listed on the 1782 tax list in Henry Co., VA. The Davidson were also associated with a George Isom/Isham, Jr., a Robert Hall (who married a Isom/Isham) and a Joshua Hudson (and there was a man in Henry Co., VA in 18782 who was named Hall Hudson). Comments?

    3. Amy, Per that website on the family of James Davidson and Mary Bean of PA and then Guilford Co., NC (http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~genea/Dzjamesbean.html), the grandson named William Davidson (son of James "II" and Hannah Sidwell) who married Hanna Oaks in Grainger Co., TN in 1804 had brothers named Jacob Davidson and James Davidson. The names of their wives are not shown on that website. I wonder if "your" Jacob Davidson who married Sara Selvage in Grainger in 1814 (with James Selvage as bondsman) was THAT Jacob Davidson (ditto the James Davidson who married Nancy Braden in Grainger in 1820, with a William Davidson as Bondsman)? Just a possibility, I guess. The bondsman for the marriage of Briant/Bryant Davidson and Sarah James in Grainger in 1816 was a John Davidson, and I can only guess which family that was. MAYBE that was the John Davidson from "my family" who was in Henry Co., VA around 1782-1784 and who was apparently the John Davidson who was then on the 1790 Stokes Co., NC census with David Davidson (who later went to Grainger Co., TN) and Richard Davidson....but that is just a "wild guess." I never knew what happened to that John Davidson after he appeared on the Stokes Co., NC census....but I have never done any independent research on him in TN, outside of just "Internet searches." There is a 16 Sep 1815 TN deed from George Isom, Junior to Bryant Davidson for 100 acres on Bull Run, and a John Davidson and a Robert Davidson were witnesses. That is the only time that I have seen a record for a Robert Davidson in that area (MAYBE Robert and Bryant Davidson were both sons of this John Davidson). 3. Helen (and others), It appears that we have FOUR Davidson families associated with Grainger Co., TN in the early 1800s: Like the Alexander Davidson family that went from Gloucester Co., VA to Spotsylvania Co., VA and then to Barren Co., KY (see "Family 8" on the DNA website...members/donors 29638 and 21985), the family of your John Abner Davidson family was also in Gloucester Co., VA (per the Internet chart, which you stated that you have verified). Note: This John Abner Davidson married a Nancy Porter in PA, and member /donor 62929 in "Family 3" on the DNA website has another John Davidson (born 1728) who MIGHT have married Tabitha Porter in PA (but I know of no "blood connection" between these two John Davidson families....but who knows)? Per the Internet chart, the family of John Abner Davidson was in Grainger Co., TN, and that was his descendants named Abner D. Davidson who married Anney Evans there in 1802 and Alexander Davidson who married Patsey Smith there in 1804. The William Davidson who married Hanna Oaks in Grainger Co., TN in 1804 is shown on yet another "Internet family tree" to have been out of the family of James Davidson (born 1715 in PA) and Mary Bean. This James Davidson is said to have been the son of a John Davidson and an Elizabeth Unknown. That was one of two known Davidson families that were in Guilford Co., NC in the late-1700s, but the William Davidson from this family apparently found his way to Grainger Co., TN at some point....if that chart is correct. There were also several others in this family who married in TN in the 1800s, though I don't know that it was in Grainger County (see the chart on this family at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~genea/Dzjamesbean.html). A descendant of Blaine/Blair Davidson who married Dorcas Cunningham in Grainger in 1800 was a DNA match to the Abner Davidson family out of Campbell Co., VA ("Family 7" on the DNA website; probably the family of James Davidson, Senior, who came to Bedford/Campbell Co., VA from PA; note: the DNA results from the descendant of Blaine/Blair Davidson have not yet been moved into "Family 7" on the DNA website...the last time that I looked, anyway). "My" Goulder Davidson and David Davidson were also in Grainger Co., TN in the early-1800s (see DNA members/donors 44723 (me) and 63327 in "Family 10" for representatives of this overall Davidson family), so that brings us to a total of four "potentially unrelated" Davidson families in Grainger Co., TN. 3. L. W. (Dave) Davidson, Your line was out of the family that included "Importation" John Davidson (was married to a Jane) and his brother George, as well as the apparent other brother named Samuel. This overall family also included General William Lee Davidson (son of George), the Rev. War hero, after whom Davidson College in NC was named, and after whom the counties in NC and TN were also named. As you probably know, that family is represented by several DNA members/donors on the Davidson/Davison/Davisson DNA website (see Family 1): http://www.tqsi.com/davidsongenes/results.php There also an excellent website dedicated to your family: http://davidson.lislefamily.org/tng/ If you enter "Gillham" in the "search box," you will come to Sarah "Sally" Gillham and her husband John Davidson. 1. Re: [DAVIDSON] of Grainger Co.

    3. Amy, There was a Blair/Blaine Davidson (married Dorcas Cunningham in 1800), a Abner Davidson (married Anney Evans in 1802), an Alexander Davidson (married Patsey Smith in 1803) and aWilliam Davidson (married Hanna Oaks in 1804), all in Grainger Co., TN. Please see the earlier post by Sherri on her Blair/Blaine Davidson. Sherri's family is an apparent DNA match to the Davidsons who were in Bedford/Campbell Co., VA in the late 1700s-early 1800s. The earliest man in that family that I have found was James Davi(d)son, Senior, who apparently came to Bedford Co., VA sometime before 1779. I SUSPECT that at least some of the other men mentioned above were also out of that same family from PA/Bedford/Campbell (and they were NOT related to the Davidson family out of JCCo/CCCo/Buckingham/Henry/etc.). Your Jacob Davidson married Sarah Selvage in 1814, a Briant Davidson married Sarah James in 1816 and a James Davidson married a Nancy Braden in 1820, all in Grainger Co., TN. Your guess is as good as mine (or maybe better than mine) as to which Davidson family any of the above belonged. They could have been remnants of the "JCCo/CCCo Davidsons" who had been in Buckingham/Pittsylvania/Henry/Patrick Co., VA, or they could have been out of the family of the above-mentioned James Davi(d)son, Senior from PA (or yet one or more additional/unproven Davi(d)son family/families). I have documented about a dozen apparently unrelated Davidson/Davison/Davisson families that came through VA in the 1600s-1800s, and DNA continues to prove that most of them truly do not share a common ancestor, going back probably thousands of years.
