    3. Hello Ian My name is Ian Benier, the husband of the now late Lorell Joyce BENIER (Nee Davey). Lorell passed away with Lung, Liver, Kidney and finally Brain cancer on the 24th of September 2017. While Lorell was very heavily into her ancestry and genealogy, I have never been into it as much as she was, as a result I'm not sure what I should now do, my gut feeling is that I just let it go. You may have a suggestion. Kindest Regards Ian BENIER P.S. I have kept Lorell's Email address active just to let some of her contacts that may be trying to contact her know that sadly she has passed away, she was 69. -----Original Message----- From: Ian Marr Sent: Thursday, April 5, 2018 11:15 AM To: davey@rootsweb.com Subject: [DAVEY] DAVEY List Now Up & Running After a long period of time, during which it must have felt as though Ancestry had abandoned our mailing lists, they are spending a lot of time and effort into bringing the software up-to-date. 1. Re: [DAVEY] New Administrator & Roll Call
    2. Hi Ian, Welcome and thank you for taking on the role. My 6x great grandfather was James Davey, born about 1725. He had a son, James, with his first wife, Mary, who was baptised 3 June 1753 in Mere, Wiltshire, England, and buried 18 September the same year. The child's mother had died some five weeks earlier, also buried in Mere. James, the father, married Mary Ford, also of Mere, 7 October 1753. This couple had two children: Sarah, born February 1756, and another James, born October 1759. Sarah died aged 11, James aged about 35 years. James's eldest son, John was born to the first Mary, January 1748. He was my 5x ggf,, and his baptism is the first actual record I have of the family's existence. He married Mary Foot in Mere, 21 December 1774, and died about 1831 in Mere. Their first child, William (nee FOOT, but adopting the family name Davey by the time he had married), was born a few weeks or days before his parents married. He was my 4x ggf. Other children are: Sarah, born 1777, died 1811; Mary, born 1779; and John, born 1781. William married Rachel MILLS, also of Mere, 6 April 1745. William and Rachel had only one known child, also William, born February 1798. Died in Mere January 1863. The younger William, married Lydia COWLEY (b.1795) in Mere 10 November 1816. First son, James, born/baptised about 3 weeks later. Further children, Ann (1819-1856); Elizabeth ((b. 1821); John (b. 1824); William (1827-1856); Andrew (b 1830, spent some time in prison and sentenced to 7 years transportation following his fourth offence in 1857. I have no record of his leaving on a prison ship); Aaron (1833-1911) eventually worked - presumably in service - in central London, married Mary BUSS abt June 1884 at St George's, Hanover Square; George (b. 1837), my 2x ggf, enlisted (balloted?) into the Wiltshire Regiment of Militia, and then attested to Royal Artillery aged about 17. Transferred back and forth between RA and RHA during 22 years' service. Court martialled five times but can't find why. Left army and got work as a clerk in the Royal Victoria Docks. Most interested in early/earlier history in (and around) Mere, any details of siblings of any generation, and details of the Courts Martial for George the artillery man. 3. Davey Roll Call. Well, might lot were really adventurous, they did not move for over 150 years. They born, bred and lived, and passed away in the village of Great Finborough, Suffolk. England. My grandfather Robert Davey (1873-1973) was probably one of the first to move out of East Anlia of his own accord. Prior to the mid 1700s they came from the village of Combs, Suffolk just a few miles away. So if anyone on the Davey list has any connection with Suffolk. Would like to hear from you. I do have a comprehensive list of B.M.D. and I am in contact with many 2nd-7th cousins Ian, thank you for getting the ball rolling again. Trust a lot more will put their Daveys on the map. Ian, any connection with Southampton? I knew a Marr family there Christmas greetings and a Happy New year to all on the list. Richard

    1. [DAVEY] Nancy Elizabeth Davey of Cayuga Co. NY, 1828-ish to 1889
    2. Alice Allen
    3. Nice to see a little activity on this list. When I got my first computer 18 years ago, message boards and mailing lists were more commonly used; now with so much online data, these resources aren't used as much. My gg grandmother was Nancy Elizabeth Davey, according to her burial records and death records for some of her children. Her parents are unknown. She married Alexander Jackson Belden, probably in Cayuga County NY, about 1848. They are listed there in the 1850 census with a couple of daughters. Somewhere between 1850-1860 they moved to La Salle or De Kalb County, Illinois, where several more children were born. By 1870 or so, they relocated to Cloud Co. Kansas, remaining in Kansas before migrating to Union County Oregon, probably around 1888. Nancy died there about 1889. I have been unsuccessful in locating any parents or siblings for Nancy. Alice Allen

    1. [DAVEY] New Administrator & Roll Call
    2. Ian Marr
    3. Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to all List members. My name is Ian Marr and I have just taken on the duties as List Administrator for DAVEY - we have 75 members at the moment. A check of the archives indicates that the list has been very quiet for some time, so I thought I would liven things up a bit by inviting a "roll call". That is, let's re-post our interests and see what happens. My somewhat meagre DAVEY connection will be posted shortly. Also, now that we are nearing the end of a year and I am a new administrator for the list, it might be worthwhile to visit the list FAQ. This will probably appear at first sight to be some sort of draconian attempt to impose law & order, but it is simply meant as a general guide, that if adhered to, will ensure we all get maximum results and maximum enjoyment from our list participation. The rules, etc. listed are no doubt common to EVERY list to which you belong - I have simply put them in writing. You can find the FAQ at: http://home.vicnet.net.au/~marr/FAQ.html So, onward and upward, let's get into the roll-call - and don't forget, meaningful Subject lines please :-) Regards, Ian Marr, DAVEY List Administrator
