To all who are interested in obituaries: I would like to call your attention to the Publishers Genealogical Coding Service, which is encouraging newspapers across the country to add a special code to each obituary they publish to enable future genealogists to easily identify the newspaper and date of publication for obituaries that have been "clipped" from the newspaper. I am not affiliated with this organization and only learned about them from the National Genealogy Society Newsletter. However, I volunteered to send a "customized form letter" to my two local newspapers and to help "spread the word". It only cost me 66 cents (for two stamps) and a few moments of my time. You can find out the entire story about this organization and how you too can help them, and future genealogists, by visiting http://www.obituarycoding.com . The PGCS has the approval of the APG, CGC, FGS, and NGS. Feel free to share this message with other mailing lists and researchers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jack W.
