    2. That is an excellent reminder, Margo. my great Grandfather was FROM Missouri. He never said that he was born there. I think I found him in the 1860 census in New Orleans where he lived. But. Someone has written just a "J" as the name and Mo. as the birthplace. For a long time I dismissed this entry. His wife was just written as Mrs. Davenport. If she were there, surely she would have given her own name. Someone else gave the information. This man told my late uncle he was born in Va. in the 1870 census, he said his birthplace was Ky. In 1880, Va. in 1900 , Ky. He was in the steamboat business and probably was away when the census taker came calling. In 1900 he was retired, so I count that census as the most accurate.
