To Doc & Marcia: I have several uncles & great-uncles who were named Jack, not John, and was told by my Davenport grandmother that they were named after ancestors "way back when" who had the given name Jack. They were very proud of it, and always corrected people who wanted to change their name to John just because "that's the way it's usually done." I do think it possible that the people you mentioned were actually named Jack, and that while sometimes this was a nickname for John, that wasn't always the case. MargoBelle
