    1. [DAVENPORT] re: Hawthorne's Davenport - curious
    2. Can anyone identify the Davenport that is referenced in Nathaniel Hawthorne's book, The House of Seven Gables? The reference is in Chapter Five, May and November. It states as follows: "Your great, great, great, great grandmother had these cups, when she married," said Hepzibah to Phoebe. "She was a Davenport, of a good family. They were almost the first tea-cups ever seen in the colony; and if one of them were to be broken, my heart would break with it." My daughter was reading this book and said that Hawthorne wrote about "real" people. She knows more about literature than I, so I assume it is true. Any ideas? Thanks, Angela Groenhout
