    1. [DAVENPORT] Burtis Davenport
    2. Gerry - There are a few things you can do to get information on your Burtis Davenport. Since you know that he died in 1962 in Augusta, Me., try obtaining his death certificate from the Kennebec County Health Department. This should have some clues as to the spelling of his name, his parents, possibly his occupation and next of kin, etc. It will also tell you where he's buried, so you can then contact the cemetery or funeral parlor for additional records. Then I'd write for his original Social Security application, since you have the Soc.Sec. number. This application will give his address, place of employment, parent's names, and much other genealogical information on him. Do you know if he served in World War I? He would have been the right age, born in 1892, he would have been 22 at the time it started. I'd try for military records at the National Archives, or possibly even the Maine State Archives. Then write to the genealogical society in the Mars Hill & Blaine areas. My map of Maine is quite incomprehensible as to counties, so I can't tell you whether these are in Aroostook or Washington Counties. The Aroostook county seat is at Houlton, Me. and the Washington county seat is in Machias, Me. Try the public libraries in each town or county, they should be able to give you the genealogical society addresses. Or, you might try finding them online through their websites. Then I'd write the two county clerks for Aroostook & Washington Counties for a marriage certificate for Burtis' father Wallace Davenport, if you have an approximate year. These things might give you some information and clues, allowing you to do more research. Good luck! MargoBelle
