To Linda: I looked through my Davenport records, couldn't find one single entry for a Gunter. I tried alternate spellings of Guenther, Guenter, Gunther, still nothing. Were you able to find any 1920 Texas census for him, or just the 1910? With as little information as you have, about the only place I can see to begin is with the Cherokee County, Tx. sources: the genealogical society, the county courthouse, the public library and possibly the newspapers there. The Cherokee County Genealogical Society is located at P.O. Box 1332, Jacksonville, Tx. 75766. I'd try them first, be sure to give them all the names & dates you have. Possibly they have some cemetery or marriage records. The county courthouse is at 6th Street, Rusk, Tx. 75785. I would write them and ask for land records, will and probate records, etc. I don't know the local newspapers there, but contact the public library and find out what papers existed around 1910, then try writing them for announcements, obituaries, news items, etc. I did find Davenports in 6 or 7 Alabama counties around 1860. If you don't come up with anything else, let me know and I can give you all these county genealogical societies. It's kind of a wild guess, but it may produce something. Good luck! MargoBelle
