Hello. First, may I say thank you for ALL that you folks have done... 'You all' are so very appreciated... Next, I was able to find some very interesting information on your findings in the Cumberland Davenports. I know you all have your own lines to contend with ---- and have been so good to share with all of us what you have found---------it is really too much to expect for you to even consider answering questions of someone who seems to be too thick headed to figure it out for herself. ME. But, if - without too much bother- you could provide a insight I would sure appreciate it. My Davenport..... John Davenport, born abt 1765 in Bedford County VA.... (Per his answer on the 1850 census from Russell Co., VA). Married in Franklin Co., VA to Lucy Hall daughter of Isham Hall. Surety was Robert Hodges. A son was named Joel Davenport and I know at a point there was a elder Joel Davenport who went with John to Russell County, VA. This would most likely be about 1800-1805.... possibly earlier, but after 1791. The information you gave from LDS #30760 makes me think that this is 'our' family in some way, for several reasons.... 1. The names. There is a Joel Davenport listed.... There is a Hodges connection, and the names used are all names that were given in the John Davenport family and on.... (This of course does not say a lot.... William, Thomas, David, James are all quite common names.) Joel might be a different story. Also, the name Julius, Henry, Joseph and Stephen are all names from the eventual Washington County Virginia folks. I have always 'felt' that John was connected in some way with this family although 'separated' by possible life style or fueds or whatever. 2. Content of the legal information follows very closely to that of the John Davenport and family type of legal situations...... debt, assault & battery etc... I understand the dictionary meaning of Surety.... but generally speaking, is the Surety not most often either related or a VERY good friend in order to obligate himself??? Do you have any idea about the August 27, 1764 entry regarding James Jr.. I'm wondering if this could have been the beginning of a separation of family... Do you have any idea who Joel in this information is and any idea of his family....in other words children of him. Or how these Davenports are connected to one another. In the Bedford County records names appearing were Joseph Davenport Jr. 1761-1762, 174,1782,1786. Matthew - 1761,1771 Jack Smith Davenport - 1771 William - 1774 - 1791-92-93-94-95-96-97-99 Joel enlisted in Bedford Co. 1777 - Joel married 1790 - Joel resided 1792 - 1795-1796 Henry - of Cumberland Co. as Appraisor for estate of A. Bowker of Bedford Co. Glover 1782-1783-1787 Joseph 1782-1785 Thomas 1784 Benjamin - 1791 John - 1791 - 1792 -94 Mary (Mother of Mourning) 1795 Wilson - 1795-99 I stop at that point as it covers the time Joel and John were in the area. A lot to ask I know, but I've sure been dumbfounded for a long time. If anyone has a thought it sure would be good to hear from you. Bonnie
