SARAH GAMBILL, daughter of Henry Gambill and Mary Davenport, was probably born by 1748 as William White believed to be her first child was born in 1766. She married John White, son of James Taylor White and Elizabeth Poe probably in SC where the Whites had settled after they left Culpepper Co. in 1755. (Southwest Louisiana Records by Rev. Donald J. Hebert) Northern Neck Warrants and Surveys show James Taylor White with 220 acres in the Goard Vine Fork of Thornton's River, Culpeper Co. surveyed 27 Apr 1748. On 20 July 1762 We the subscribers certify that in 1755 William White made over all his entries and surveys in Culpepper Co. as also his father's James Taylor White's entries and surveys in said county to John Strother for a debt due to Strother. White being a going to leave the colony and Strother being at the south branch with a party of militia the assignment was taken by George Strother for the use of John Strother and signed by John Wallis, James Barker, Francis Jacoby, and John White. James Taylor White and his four known sons William, Reuben, James and John then moved to Jeffreys Creek in the Welch Tract of South Carolina where they remained until the start of the Revolution when they went to Burke Co. N. C. Henry Gambill Sr. is last mentioned in Culpeper Co., Va. records 20 May 1763 (Minute Book) John Strother agst. Henry Gambill is dismissed. Sons William, Benjamin, John, and Henry remained in Va. and are mentioned in the records of Culpeper, Louisa and Cumberland Counties. On 17 Mar 1768 (Culpeper Co. Deed Book E) Garritt Minor sold 520 ac. in Culpeper Co. adjoining a tract of late Henry Gambill deceased. Depositions in 1775 Culpeper Co. by Thomas and Dorothy Baker to prove that William Gambill was heir at law to his father Henry Gambill state that Henry died in South Carolina, was buried there and left no will. John White brought his family down the Mississippi River to Natchez arriving in May 1782 with wife (Sarah Gambill) and children totaling eight individuals according to the Spanish records of the commandant at Natchez. By 1785 John White had left the Natchez area (Natchez Court Records by McBee). All of the following information was obtained from Southwest Louisiana Records by Rev. Donald J. Hebert, Louisiana Census Returns and Parish Succession Records. John White made his will 15 August 1806 in Attakapas County, La. naming wife Sarah and children Jesse White, Sarah Dunman, James Taylor White and Susanne White. The will was probated 9 August 1808. The settlement of the estate of Sarah White on 10 April 1828 in Lafayette Parish, La. names the heirs as Nancy White widow of George Burrell, Lucy White wife of John Clark, James Taylor White, the representatives of William White deceased, Joseph White only heir of Jesse White deceased, representatives of Mary White wife of Alexander Greer both deceased, representatives of Susan White deceased wife of John Lee, representatives of Sarah White deceased wife of James Dunman also deceased. Sarahs estate was divided into eight parts. In the christening records of St. Martin du Tours Church John White and wife Sarah Gambill are listed as natives of Virginia or of North Carolina. The parents of John White are listed as James Taylor White and Elizabeth Pou (or Sparks) and the parents of Sarah Gambill are Henry Gambill and Mary Dempot or Davenport. Tradition has Humphrey Jackson of Ireland marrying a daughter of John White who died shortly after the marriage. Her name is not known. William White (of N. C.) married Aimee Comstock on 31 Jan 1791 and had Marie born 14 Aug 1791, Ruben born 28 Oct 1795, Jesse born 4 Mar 1798, George born 30 Sept. 1800, Rachel born 29 Aug 1803, Henry born 11 June 1806 and Celestine (Sarah) born 13 July 1809 according to the christening records. The William White Bible has William White born 17 Dec 1766 and Amelia White born 10 Mar 1775 and their marriage on 3 Jan 1791. Their children Elizabeth 18 Oct 1792 and died 10 Nov 1809, Mary 14 August 1793, Reuben 23 Oct 1795, Jesse 4 Mar 1798, George 30 Sept 1800, Rachel 29 Aug 1803, Henry 11 June 1805, Sally 13 July 1809, Rebecca 13 April 1813, William 28 Mar 1815 and Julia 21 Jan 1819. As the widow of William White, Amy Comstock brought her family to Texas with Austin Old 300 and settled on the San Jacinto River. Nancy White (of N. C.) married first to David Harman on 21 May 1787 and had Ann Harman born c. 1789 and christened 11 Jan 1800, John Harman born c. 1791 and Sarah (Celeste) Harman born 19 May 1792. On 8 Nov 1792 an inventory of David Harmons estate by widow Nancy White shows Anne Harmon age 4, John Harmon age 2 ½ and Sarah Harmon age 5 months as issue of this marriage and is signed by Nancy White and John White grandfather of the minors. Nancy married second Joseph Carr on 24 Feb 1794 and had William Carr born 22 Feb 1795 and married Nancy Lee 23 Feb 1819 and Maria Lucinda Carr born 16 April 1797 and married James McLaughlin. Nancy married third to George Burrell on 1 April 1801 and they had David Burrell born 1803 who married Caroline White and Robert Burrell who married Susanne Clark on 22 Feb 1822. On 8 June 1828 Nancy White married Jacob Hampshire in St. Landry Parish, La. It is unknown when and where Nancy died. All her children migrated to Jefferson Co. Texas by 1827. She had a land grant in McLennon Co. as the widow Burrell. Jacob Hampshire is enumerated on the Calcasieu Parish, La. census of 1840 as age 80-90 and living alone. Either she was deceased by this date or had moved to Texas with her children. Lucy White, native of Carolina, married Whittington Wallace on 2 Jan 1795 (she is a minor) and had Timothy born Feb 1795, Celestine born 20 July 1797, William born 20 Dec 1798 , David born 1 Mar 1802 and John born 7 Jan 1805. Lucy married second Joshua Hartley and had Ann 10 Oct 1807 and Joseph born 3 Jan 1809. She married John Clark about 1820. John Jesse White was born 15 Sept 1778 born in S. C. or of N. C. (depends on the record) married on 27 May 1800 to Jeanne Dunman and had Joseph on 18 May 1805 and John. Jesse White died 13 April 1813 and his will names two children John White and Joseph White. Marie White born 9 Sept 1780 married Alexander Graer (Greer) and had Nancy who married Joseph Dunman 23 Mar 1813. As the widow of Elick Greer she married James Young on 5 April 1815. Sarah White was born c. 1783 in Natchez married James Dunman on 5 May 1801 and had Jeanne (John) Donman 31 Aug 1804, Martin Donman 1 Mar 1807, Robert Dunman 28 April 1809, James Dunman, Susan Dunman, Henry Dunman, and Joseph Dunman James Taylor White was born 28 July 1789 and married Sarah Cade on 26 Jan 1813. This James Taylor White started the first cattle ranch in Texas which is still owned by his descendants. Suzanne White was born 2 Nov 1791 and married John Lee on 27 Feb 1811. They had one child Alfred Lee.
