    1. Re: [DAVENPORT] Jack Smith Davenport
    2. A bit of context for Margo's LW&T of Jack Smith Davenport: Jack Smith Davenport was mortally wounded at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in North Carolina on March 15, 1781. All of four witnesses to the LW&T cited appear to have been associated with St. Martin's Parish, Louisa County, suggesting that Jack Smith had either gone back to his father's last known location in Louisa County to die, or that a delegation of Louisa Countians happened to be in his Charlotte County neighborhood when he was on his death bed. The two Ragland witnesses were sons of Samuel Ragland, Esqr., of St. Martin's Parish, Louisa, of whom we have written earlier. Witness Philip King had a brother named Smith King, which suggests a kinship of some sort with the testator. John Scott Davenport Holmdel, NJ
