    3. Jan, that is right. I had to do it about a year ago, but put all the information that you have on the person in the letter to Social Security, then write a letter to the person that you are seeking, place this in an undressed, stamped envelope and mail to them. They read the letterand decide if they have reason to try and find this person. It has to be for death, medical or another good reason, not for Genealogy purposes. Since then, I have found the person on my own through an Obit and the S.S. Office has stillnever forwarded my letter to them as we are now in contact with each other and the letter will not be returned, nor will you be notified if the person is found. My reason was a family medical that involved several children from the Grandfather that came from Italy. Hope this tells you something. Gerry
