Co. appoint friend Thomas Levisay of Franklin Co., Va. attorney to recover mulatto girl Jenney sold to sd.Levisay by Davenport and Levisy sold to Walter Grill there being a kind of a notion of the sd. wench being a free negro 10 Mar 1787 and witnessed by Thomas Flowers, Shardlow Wrightman. Pittsylvania Co., Va. 23 May 1787 on hearing complaint of Deborah Payne by her counsel that she is a free person brought out of Maryland without leave of her parents and sold as a slave by Leonard Smith to William Davenport who sold to Thomas levisay, etc .sd. Deborah Payne is a free person she be forthwith discharged from slavery. Know I Thomas Levisay of Buckingham Co., VA. bound to William davenport of Cumberland Co. for 1800 pounds va. money pad. by Davenport sell to him all right to 5000 ac. Cannons Mines or Rock Island Creek, Buckingham Co. proper conveyance of sd. land to be complied with within 12 months from7 July 1779. Condition is that whereas sd.
