Greetings Cousins and List Members, old and new. Happy New Year! The State of Nevada has survived the Y2K "crisis"; things are getting back to normal; and I am back on the 'net. It's good to be home :-) Nevada had a few "incidents", but none turned out to be Y2K related. However, several hearts stopped beating for a few seconds at midnight on New Years Eve when a "reveler" released a metallic balloon into the air that drifted into some overhead power lines and shorted them out, tripping the circuit breakers at a nearby power substation. All the lights in downtown Carson City went out a few moments after midnight and near panic set in. Luckily, all the casinos, where everyone was celebrating, had backup generators that kicked in seconds later. However, that didn't satisfy all the politicians and media types who were partying with the public. They all raced to their cars (limos?) to get to "headquarters" to find out what was going on and what crisis we were facing [BTW, power was restored to downtown an hour later]. Me? I spent a boring evening at the OEM (Office of Emergency Management) Crisis Center. I would have rather been at home with my family and the many relatives who came to visit me for the weekend. I won't comment on the "Millennium" because I have been told many times that everybody wants to believe we just started a new one and that nobody cares about the truth (especially the media and the advertisers). However, just in case there are genealogists out there who want to know the truth, I have posted an article from the Washington Post on my web site. You can read it at http://users.intercomm.com/nvjack/millennium_debate.htm I would like to take this opportunity to inform the new list members, and remind the ones who have been here awhile, that we have a Davenport Genealogy Page. You can find it at http://users.intercomm.com/nvjack/davnport/index.htm For you old-timers who have "bookmarked" this page, please be aware that I have changed the address of the page from "davnport.htm" to "index.htm". However, not to worry, "davnport.htm" still works. I have changed the code to "redirect" your request to "index.htm". Please don't misunderstand my comments in the following paragraph. They do not refer to the DAVENPORT-L Rootsweb, which is open to all. They only refer to the web site that I own, manage and maintain. Please know and/or remember: I am not collecting *all* Davenports, anywhere/anytime, in my database. I am descended from Davis Davenport of King William County, VA, and that is who I have concentrated my efforts on. If you are descended from Davis, or think you are, you will find a wealth of information there, and I will be happy to add your line to the database. However, I am also happy to provide a link to the lineage of any other branch on my web site. Ask me for details. Again, Happy New YEAR, but *not* decade, century, or millennium. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jack W.
