Still searching for my g grandfather's family. Finally finished the 1860 census for Hunterdon County, NJ. Since it isn't indexed it has taken a while and I thought I would share the DAVENPORTs that I've found. All are 1860 Hunterdon County, New Jersey, but the townships vary. Readington. Elizabeth DAVENPORT, 16, f, b. NJ living with (?) Nyres (m, 71, miller), Elizabeth Nyres (f, 66) John P. Hartpence (m, 19, miller), Peter Gary (m, 35, Flax & Husk Factry(?)) and William Tackinthall (m, 24, mill wright). Perhaps she was domestic but it is not indicated. Readington. Peter DAVENPORT, m, 27, day laborer, b. NJ. Mary E. DAVENPORT, f, 20, b. NJ. Emma J. DAVENPORT, f, 1, b. NJ Union. William DAVENPORT, m, 10, b. NJ, living with William A. Rea, (m, 24, farmer) Rebecca Rea (f, 27), and Halloway Streeter (m, 22, farm laborer). Wonder what that connection was? Lebanon. Levi DAVENPORT, m, 18, blacksmith b. NJ living with William Crater (35, m, blacksmith) and his family: Caroline, f, 34, Elizabeth, f, 13, George, m, 10, Andrew S., m, 7, Emma, f, 3. All born in NJ. Alexandria. Mary DAVENPORT, f, 12, b. NJ living with the Stryker family next door to --- (?) DAVENPORT (m, 45, blacksmith), Lucinda DAVENPORT (f, 42), Lafayette (m, 7) Lemuel (m, 5) and ??? (f, 3) . All are born in NJ. Franklin. Leonard DAVENPORT, m, 38, Laborer. Elizabeth, f, ?45. Caroline, f, 16. (?) Harford W., m, 3. All are born in NJ. Flemington. John W. DAVENPORT, M, 22, b. NJ. He is living with John S. Emery, 22, m, merchant and his family: Mary A., 23,f Addie S. f, 16. Peter, m, 13. Also in residence here are a domestic and another clerk. All are born in NJ.
