1. Re: [DAVENPORT] DNA
2. There will be some more DNA discussion coming very soon. I am expecting several more results soon - possibly even today. The Y-DNA test we are using tells us the odds of two males having a common ancestor. It cannot tell us who that ancestor is or when he lived. But by testing different branches of a family we can get a pretty good idea. It is not a paternity test. There are many variables involved but the most commonly used figures are for an exact 25/25 match between two males with the same surname there is a 50% chance they had a common ancestor within the last 7 generations, and a 90% chance in the last 23 generations. For a good explanation how this works and more stats go to the Blair website: >http://blairgenealogy.com/dna/dna101.html Bill Davenport [email protected] Davenport Surname DNA Project Administrator --------- In a message dated 5/23/2003 9:52:29 AM Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: > I haven't seen any mention of DNA for some time.
