    3. I just finished searching the 1860 Union County, New Jersey census records looking for my g grandfather John DAVENPORT. The earliest record I can find for him (other than his Civil War records) is the 1870 census in Union County. He was born in NJ and lived in NJ when he enlisted. My next effort will be Hunterdon County. This man has eluded me now for over 30 years but I will find him! Anyway, while searching I did find a Silas DAVENPORT and thought I would pass the information along to the list. He is living in the 3rd Ward Elizabeth, New Jersey. Since the parents were born in Conn and the children in Long Island perhaps they have been in hiding from someone out there. Silas Davenport, 49, M, Law agent, b. Conn. Betsy A. 52, F, b. Conn. William 19, M, Clerk b. Long Island Sarah E. 17, F, b. Long Island Silas A. 14, m, b. Long Island Anna M. 9, f, b. Long Island I hope this helps someone. Carol Parks [email protected]

    3. I have family from Essex Co. NJ. Winans L. Davenport. b. March 8 1789. He had a son John Davenport. The only thing that I know is that he fought in the Civil war & was wounded & came home on leave. He returned to fighting and was not heard from again. John had a brother Anthony and that is my line. Anthony had a son Silas Anthony Davenport. That was my g grandfather b. May 10, 1878. I cant find anything before Winans. He was an Oyster fisherman that became disenchanted with his profession and moved to Delaware Co. Ohio. He was married to Catherine ?. I do know that he had a cousin Pheobe that married an Abner Mosier and they were from Essex co. also. http://www.matlack.com/history/index.htm
