Becky: Thanks for responding. First - this is a test on the Y chromosome. Only males have the Y chromosome. The DNA we are testing is passed down from father to son generation after generation virtually unchanged. If two Davenports are tested and they match -- then there is a good chance they have a common ancestor. Does your grandmother have brothers with male descendants? We are using FamilyTree DNA as the lab. There are two tests for the Y-DNA - a 12 marker and a 25 marker. I strongly suggest the 25 marker. It is much more useful for our purposes.
