I would like to hear more on this. I received this message this morning. Do with it what you may. Bill Davenport [email protected] ------------------------------- Dear William Noticed your entry in Cheshire Ancestry message board. I've no Davenport relations but I thought you might like to know that a local history book indicates that local landowner Hamon de Massey, whose ancestors came over with Wlliam I, granted lands in Hale to a Jurdan de Davenport about 1284. Maybe he took his name from the local hamlet of Davenport in Hale which still exists, or gave his name to it. Hale Civic Society is currently reresearching the History of Hale and if I come across more I'll send it. Looking at the whole of the UK, a large % of Davenports are currently in the Cheshire (and surrounding Lancashire & Derbyshire) area with many in Altrincham.
