    1. [DAVENPORT] Much Procrastination due to Iraqi War
    2. Kinfolks & Friends: I have been errant in responding to various messages and requests for the past four weeks, being caught up in the TV/Cable reporting of the War for Iraqi Freedom. Military history has always been a passion, and I have been amazed and enthralled by the way the Iraqi campaign unfolded--the strategy and the tactics. The 3rd Infantry Division's dash to Bagdad reminds me of the audacity of Jeb Stuart's Confederate Cavalry ride around the rear of the Army of the Potomac and some of the forays of Nathan Bedford Forrest when he was tying the Yankees in knots in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama by maneuvering Confederate Cavalry in such a manner as to keep ten times more Yankees engaged and chasing him than Forrest had troopers. As a WWII Marine, I revel in the exploits of the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force--including the famed 7th Regiment (Belleau Woods, Guadacanal, wherein my younger brother served in Korea and my son during Viet Nam), 5th Regiment (Battle of the Marne, Guadacanal), and 4th Regiment (China Marines captured on Bataan, but reconstituted to be the first Marines into Tokyo). Then too, the 109th Medical Battalion, 34th Infantry Division (Monte Casino and the Italian campaign) wherein I served during Korea, was activated for this go around three months ago. Frankly, with the multiplicity of old memories involved, it has been hard for me to focus on genealogy. So now you know why I have not replied to various queries. John Scott Davenport Holmdel, NJ

    3. Colonel........... It has been great, hasn't it? Almost as good is taking some satisfaction from the liberals being wrong.............again. I'm never surprised, but always tickled. The trouble is, they rarely admit it.
