    1. [DAVENPORT] Hannah Soby
    2. This is what was sent to me, two others will follow. I post the senders name (for verification) as soon as I hear from him...Teri Dear Teri, Great site, but I have two concerns relating to the information found on your Davenport site. My concerns: 1. Oliver Davenport’s wife was Hannah Sobey (Soby, Sobee) and she was never a Seely or Seeley. This certainly also relates to my second concern. 2.** "Notes for HANNAH SOBY/SEELEY: Hannah was the biological daughter of Trustum Soby & Hannah Griffin. Hannah was a blood native of the Delaware Nation. She was later adopted by the Seeley family of Newfield, Tompkins Co, NY for unknown reasons."** (**to ** is from our website- Teri & Butch) Foundation(s) for my concerns. The vehicle from which various researchers mistakenly decided that Hannah was a Seely (Seeley) was the 11 Jul 1769 Last Will & Testament of Eunis Seely, the widow of Ebenezer Seely. In that will, Eunis stated: "I also give to my stepdaughter Hannah Denvenport ten pounds out of all the monies that remains coming to me out of my deceased husband Seely’s estate." >From the above, researchers knowing that Eunis was the second wife of Ebenezer Seely, would assume that Ebenezer had a daughter, Hannah, by his first wife and further that therefore Oliver Davenport (the will called a step-son-in-law and co-executor) married a Hannah Seely. I have likely made many false assumptions during my many years of working on genealogy and therefore can understand the false reading of that will. In truth, Ebenezer Seely never had a daughter, Hannah, and the following is the case in point: The above named widow, Eunis Seely, had numerous marriages and to the best of my knowledge was Eunis Schofield-Sobey-Seely. The reason I say "best of my knowledge" is that I have the feeling that Schofield wasn’t her maiden name, but that of her first marriage. What we do know is that the mother of Hannah, Deborah (my 4-gt-grandmother) and Lazarus Soby was dead by 18 Aug 1729. By that time, Trustum Soby had married Eunis Schofield. Translation from the French (Huguenot) Church of New Rochelle: "Today 18 August 1729. Baptized 3 children of Trustum SOBY and Hannah, his deceased wife, viz: a girl named Deborah age _____, a girl named Hannah age ___, and Lazarus, age _____. The three children were presented by Mr. John Road and madam his wife, by Trustum SOBY, their father and Mrs ______ their stepmother. L. Stouppe, Pastor." We also know from a representation of a Huguenot Church Letter of 01 Jun 1743 found in Bolten’s HISTORY OF WESTCHESTER COUNTY, that both Trustum SOBY and his son-in-law, Gideon FLORANCE II signed that church letter which was requesting addition pastoral help from England. To get to the point.......Hannah was the step-daughter of Eunis Seely via the marriage of Eunis and the widower, Trustum Soby, not a Seely step-daughter. My 3-gt-grandfather, Gideon Florance III, was co-executor of the Eunis Seely will along with Oliver Davenport and Gideon being the eldest son of Gideon and Deborah (Soby) Florance was the recipient of the majority of Eunis’ estate. Also note that Hannah Sobee (Soby) witnessed the will of Thomas (the founder) Davenport in Phillips Precinct, Dutchess Co., NY on 10 Oct 1746. She married Oliver Davenport on 12 Jul 1747 in the Dutch Church, Fishkill, NY. As for Hannah being a bloodnative of the Delaware Nation, I can’t buy that information at all................... Trustum Sobey (my 5-gt-grandfather, b ca 1705) was a French Huguenot whose family had fled France for Cornwall, England prior to his coming to America. Trustum Soby witnessed several Westchester, NY wills during his life time and on 03 Apr 1750, he was appointed Collector and Constable for the Town of Mamoroneck, Westchester Co., NY. Also very doubtfull that Hannah, like her father, would be signing official documents if she was an Indian in that time and place. I will gladly forward a copy (.jpg) of the Eunis Seely Last Will & Testament, Huguenot Church letter or any other proofs you would like to see. An oddity is that my wife’s 2-gt-grandmother was Sarah Seely and as members of the Seely/Seeley Genealogy Society, we had to get them to make the same correction on Hannah being a Soby, not a Seely. It was also nice that my 3-gt-grandfather inherited part of my wife’s ancestors money..........{:-).
