As I recall (it's been 20 years or more since I went to the courthouse and viewed these records), another doubt occurs about the minister's marriage certificate date because the ENTRY into the ledger or journal was at least a month AFTER the wedding, so it's hard to take total faith in his date that is 3 days later than the fam Bible states. Any time something is written down, errors are common. One more reason for US to record events, thoughts, and memories IMMEDIATELY, like the same day, or it will too soon grow fuzzy on the details. When different docs record different dates, and no way to disprove or prove, I try to record ALL dates and sources where found. Makes interesting reading even if you can't figure out the exact date. Curtis [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, June 24, 2003 6:08 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [DAVENPORT] Family Bible vs Census I tend to believe the 'family Bible records' instead of the census, for this reason: in the case of my own marriage, the Minister who performed our marriage wrote down the wrong date of our marriage. He wrote down the date he mailed in the Marriage Certificate [license] to the county instead of the date of our actual marriage. So, on the County Marriage Records the date recorded for our marriage is WRONG! My husband is a Minister and it's very easy to make this same mistake the way the Marriage Certificates are worded. It's a bit confusing to the Minister ...does he sign his name and date it the day of the actual marriage or the date he's mailing it in? I imagine many have made this mistake. What if the minister did not record the marriage in the place that he married the couple. If the minister was traveling one then he recorded the marriage up or down the river from the wedding place or he recorded when he got home. I have family living in VA the minister was from Maryland. That is where he record my ancestor marriage. Has anyone looked for the application of marriage? This is wonderful for the couple filed it out.
