    1. Re: [DAVENPORT] A "Must Read" For All Davenport Researchers
    2. Teri: The DNA project is for ALL Davenports/Devenports. I thought that was understood. When I first agreed to take on this project I never in my wildest dreams expected to find all of us Davenports were related. Regarding your Humphrey line - all we have proven so far is that the Humphrey > William > William > William > William > William > James branch is not related to any other line tested so far. We have two participants from that branch and they match each other. I haven't made a big thing of it yet because of the limited results. If we had a different branch ie - Humphrey > Humphrey tested we would know more. It may be that the other Humphrey lines match the Rev. John of New Haven exactly. Who knows? It is way to early to draw any major conclusions. I am sorry you removed your link to the DavenportDNA Project. I will keep yours. Sorry! But let me elaborated...Bill means we are not related to Thomas of Dorchester and Albemarle lines. This does NOT indicate that we are NOT Davenport's/Devenport's. We are, we are very documented. Sorry Bill, but we no longer have a DNA link on our site because we are not related. We'll get our traffic by reputation and dedication.....Teri

    3. Bill, perhaps one line of text on the DNA website is causing some confusion and should be eliminated. It isn't regarding Humphrey, but the Pamunkey Davenports. It says: "This may support the theory that The Pamunkey Davenports originated from a non-Davenport 300-400 years ago." I'd say this is too speculative. It would only support that theory if all other lines were similar, which we now know they aren't. Surnames didn't even exist until about 600 years ago. It isn't surprising to find several lines of unrelated people adopted the same surname. It doesn't mean any one of them is non-Davenport or more Davenport than anyone else. Maybe some have gotten the idea that the DNA project is to see who is a "real" Davenport, which of course, it isn't and can't do.
