As of June 25, 2003 - 22 Y-DNA test kits have gone out with results back from 16. Hopefully we will have the results from five of the six in within the week. Three DNA tests have come in since my last report on June 7, 2003. -------- The ancestry of Kit # 9729 is Humphrey of Barbados (b. abt 1600) > William (1664-1742) > William (1696-1768) > William (1744-1768) > William (1766-1858) > William (1789-?) > James > Claude. We have had one other Humphrey so far - # 8742. They both have identical ancestry up to the sons of James. 8742 goes through William instead of Claude. Participant 9729 took the 25 marker test, while 8742 took the 12 marker. Since they share a common ancestry the results were what was expected. An exact 12 of 12 match. Since this branch of the Humphrey line (Humphrey.....James) is far removed of any other Davenport line tested - we need other Humphrey branches tested to see if this is an isolated incident. -------- Kit #10002 traces his ancestry back to Charles Devenport (1810-1888) - born in Greenville, SC, died in Texas. His results matched 25/25 with #9108 a Newberry. Isaac (d.1749) > Francis > Isaac > William > William. He was a 24/25 match to #9068 Isaac (d.1749) > Francis > William > Francis > Ezekial. So #10002 is most likely a Newberry. His branch is probably descended from one of Isaac's (d.1749) other sons or a Francis son other than William. On the DavenportDNA web page his results were moved from the "unknown" lines to the Newberry. -------- Kit # 9146 is another interesting case. He goes back to John Davenport born in 1815 in Kentucky. There is a possible connection to Abraham and Absolom Davenport of Clark Co. KY. The line eventually moved to Iowa. A Haplogroup is a classification of DNA patterns. The R1b haplogroup is the most common group in western Europe. Most of the Davenports tested so far belong to this group. This participant belongs to Haplogroup I. The Humphreys tested so far were J. If you are from different haplogroups - you do not have a common ancestor - at least in the genealogical time frame. If anyone knows of a descendant of Abraham or Absolom - we could use another test subject. ------- That's it for now. Bill Davenport [email protected] Davenport Surname DNA Project Administrator
