Bob My wife's father's name was Roger AUGUSTUS Davenport, and I always had an idea he mjght have been related to an Augustus in Rhode Island. I never ran across Augustus in the Bay State. Russ, Sorry, I have hundreds of RI Davenports in my lists but none named Augustus. Such names must come from someplace, perhaps in your case it was either from a maternal connection or simply selected by a Roman admirer.
