Hello Cousin Bill. I am a great-great-grandson of John Davenport and Nancy Parmley through their daughter Mary Jane Davenport. Mary married Larkin German, my great-grandfather. Yes, Davenport Mountain was named after John. This mountain was in Gilmer County, Georgia (now Fannin County). It is at Snake Nation in Fannin County close to Gilmer County line. John and his three brothers came to Union County, Ga. from Wayne County, Kentucky in the 1840s after their first cousin Claiborne came to Union Co. after his marriage in Rhea County, Tenn. John's and Nancy's children were born in Wayne County, Ky. but Mary and Ann were the last two children were born in Georgia. They had a son Bear Davenport probably born in Georgia. Nancy was pregnant while she washed the clothes in a kettle outside. The bear came and bit Nancy's arm. She hit the bear with the stick. Later the son was born looking half a bear. I had been looking for the pictures of John and Nancy and Bear Davenport for a long time. Yes, John was a son of Osborne living in Wayne Co.
