Janice, I am an infant in the art of family research. Allan Craig has graciously sent me what he has on the Davenports of Lincoln and Gaston Counties in NC. Do you have any material relative to Davenports in those areas. Also, if it is in a computer file, please tell dumb Dottie how to get to it. And every fourth or fifth time I use it or alter any file it asks me to back it up and I say yes! I say for my basic structure because my elderly relatives don't really like the way Gedcoms churn out data. So when I do "books" for them I spend a couple of extra hours using my own system with alot of tabs and dividers, etc...sans most numbers.involving tabs, etc. for children. I also have begun inserting more original documents and spending less time transcribing lengthy inventories, and estate sales. This seems to please everyone greatly amongst the relatives. BUT the basics are still, always in my gedcom, and I really DO like it that PAF asks for constant backups. FYI, the way I do it is have PAF do reports beginning with each consecutive child....so the children are numbered 1, 2, 3, rather than 57, 58, 59, etc. I also don't give my Missouri relatives the full dose of their 4g grandfathers who went way far thataway!. Just a thought. I DO believe that there is a feature on FTM, though that you can engage that does remind you about backups. If I recall correctly, when I used FTM, it was probably one of the first things I turned off. <smile> Separately, I have three different gedcoms. Because AOL doesn't have stingy limits on mailbox size...I constantly email myself my gedcom and all other important documents. I have made "megadocuments" of the key items in my surname and geographic folders.. I have one screenname set up just for that purpose. That way if my computer goes south I will have what I need. And..I have a couple of really small Yahoo accounts that will hold the most critical items. Again, one of the reasons that I like AOL is because I have alot megabytes involved and they never give me any guff...HOWEVER, I do have to make sure that I forward things to myself again every three weeks or so. I can access my AOL account pretty much anywhere since you don't need the software to do it.
