Hi, Unfortunately Family Treemaker currently does not have the system set up to copy to a CD. I have a CD burner and it won't back up to it. I've tried it several ways but with no success. If anyone knows of a way to do this from FTM, I would really love to know....Hopefully one of the future upgrades will include that capability in their "backup to" list. Mary, I did it once, but I had to put the entire program on the CD just to get the files. However, I have tried again to do it on another CD and no luck, so I have no idea what I did the first time to make it work, but I had the whole program on a CD. Wish I could be of more help, but I do know it can be done. Mary Crutchfield <[email protected]> wrote:Hi, Unfortunately Family Treemaker currently does not have the system set up to copy to a CD. Mary, You should be able to use your CD burner program in the following manner: Select: MAKE A DATA DISK You should come to a sceen that says: SELECT FILES AND FOLDERS TO ADD Select: DRIVE C Open the folder: FTW Find in that folder the file with the name of your Family Tree: For example: Davenport. There are three files you want to copy: 1. FTW Family File. It is the color blue and is labeled the name of your family tree. For Example Davenport. (this is the file you work with created by the program with the information you enter) 2. FTW Backup File. It is the color red and is labeled the name of your family tree. For Example Davenport (this is the file that is updated when you close your program and it says backing up) 3. FTW Compact Backup File. It is the color red and is labeled the name of your family tree. For Example Davenport (this file is created when you select BACKUP FAMILY FILE in the Family Tree Program) These 3 files are simply copies of one another in one form or another. SELECT EACH OF THESE FILES AND THEN TELL THE CD BURNER TO BURN THEM TO THE CD. NOTE: If you have more than one family tree on your Family Tree Program the each tree should have 3 files named for it in the FTM folder. COPY them to CD and your files should be protected against a catastrophe.
