Put me down for a copy. It's stealing at that price :) Is there any way to get copies of the first CD? Ginger ~ So. IL/St. Louis -----Original Message----- From: JSDDOC@aol.com To: davenport@rootsweb.com Sent: Wed, 20 Dec 2006 11:19 AM Subject: [DAVENPORT] Judge Linda E. Davenport to Edit Part 2, Plans to Publish, Billy Bob PAMUNKEY DAVENPORTS & OTHERS INTERESTED: Linda E. Davenport, Associate Judge, 18th Judicial District, DuPage County, Illinois, has agreed to edit Part 2 of the "Further Chronicles of the Pamunkey Davenports." Linda advises that she was born in Muscatine, Iowa, 53 years ago, has been an Illinois resident for 48 years, a lawyer for 28 years, married 27 years, a judge for four months, is a mother of 3, and is a "granddaughter of a wonderful genealogist who did it all without a computer, but with a Greyhound bus and a love of cemeteries." Davenport is her maiden name. Like Judy, Linda holds the degree of Doctor of Jurisprudence. Judy G. Russell, a Baker-Davenport, will remain on board until we achieve publication, will tend to the upkeep of Five Generations Family Chart on the Internet. She spent more than a year in editing Part 1, required Doc to straighten out a number of inconsistencies and to clarify documentation. She rewrote the massive appendices to achieve unit integrity and eliminate redundancies. She was pleased when Linda volunteered to come aboard and happily handed off the editor's baton for Part 2. Judge Linda is another double Pamunkey, is a descendant of Absalom Davenport, fourth son of Joel Davenport and Sarah Boyd. Joel was a descendant of Martin Davenport of Hanover, eldest son of Davis Davenport, via William of Spotsylvania, Virginia, then Augustine of Rowan County, North Carolina. Sarah was a descendant of Thomas Davenport of Cumberland, third son of Davis Davenport, via his eldest son James of Halifax, Virginia, then James' eldest daughter Rhoda, who married William Boyd, both then of Halifax. Joel and Sarah met and married in Randolph County, North Carolina, c1795. Joel died there in 1807, having fathered five sons, all of whom ended up Indiana. From Randolph, eldest son Jesse and third son William went to Indiana c1816; Augustine, second son, moved to Indiana in 1821; and Absalom and Travis, fourth and fifth sons, respectively, move there in 1830. Absalom moved on to Iowa c1850. Linda can take it from there. Judy has completed the edit of Part 1, "Beginnings in Virginia and North of the James River," which is done except for the Table of Contents and a touch up of the tables by Nevada Jack. Part 2, "South of the James River," is near completion. Part 3, "Southwest Virginia," is being compiled and annotated by Whit Davenport out in California, scheduled for completion on or before 31March2007. Part 4, "Northeastern North Carolina, Elias Davenport & Descendants," has been done for three years. We are targeting 1Jul2007 for publication in CD format of all four parts of "The Chronicles." In addition, we'll likely include several additional studies focusing on corollary families, such as the Kennedys, Graves, and Smith. All parts of "The Chronicles" and the supplementary files, all color coded, will be on one CD. We're thinking about a price around $45. Those who bought the earlier CD will get a $10 credit. All moneys exceeding expenses of production and distribution will go towards an incipient endowment for maintenance and furtherance of Pamunkey Davenport genealogy at Southern Virginia University. No remunerations for personal services will be paid. Details of the endowment and stipulations related thereto have not been worked out yet, are still more intent than fact. But that's the plan. Sadly, we report that Robert L. "Billy Bob" Davenport, who was a major member of our research team and the treasurer of the Pamunkey Davenport Family Association, when we had funds from the first Chronicles CD, but who dropped out of an active role three years ago when he moved from Kentucky to Florida, has Alzheimer's and can no longer deal with the computer, the Internet, the Rootsweb, and e-mails. We miss Billy Bob's cheerful approach, his good counsel, and recognize the important role he played in getting the Chronicles Project underway and attending to the funding in those crucial early days. We propose to include Billy Bob in the dedication of The Chronicles publication.
