I suspect that RootsWeb is having problems with their new email program. Please let me know if you received Doc's message via the list. I can tell you that I did not. Jack PAMUNKEY & OTHERS INTERESTED: Our thanks to Kyle Davenport for putting us straight in this regard: If you've got an Isaac Davenport marrying an Elizabeth Diggs in Amherst County, Virginia, in 1789, toss it out. Amherst Diggs/Digges Family records have parents for an Elizabeth, her birthdate, her marriage date, and her death date. She married Isaac Darnielle. How Darnielle, even in extremely illegible script could be taken for Davenport, we know not, but it was and became Davenport gospel. We can affirm that no tracks have been found for an Isaac Davenport among 18th Century Pamunkeys, in Amherst or elsewhere in Virginia, and are appreciative in being able to cross him off the list of untraced family members. So, if you have an Isaac Davenport in the list of children attributed to Joseph Davenport (c1740-1817?) of Amherst, eldest son of Richard Davenport of Albemarle, who was the eldest son of Richard Davenport, Sr., of Caroline, who was the second son of Davis Davenport of King William, the Pamunkey Patriarch, cross him out. 3. Greetings to all! It has been a very long time since I last corresponded with the core group of Davenport researchers! I am happy to once again have some time to get back into completing some work. I saw in the archives that you are actively collecting DNA for the Davenport surname. Can someone please send me the contact info for getting the information regarding costs, etc. I love the idea of working to connect the dots, so to speak, of our Pamunkey Davenports with other (English) groups (if possible). I will have to persuade a cousin to participate (male lineage), but I will try to get a willing subject! Having successfully "shooed the birdies from the nest" and relocated in an area to call home (former military family) I look forward to catching up with everyone. Speaking of the "little birdies" - my youngest, a US Marine of 3 yrs. was just selected into the Marine Corps Enlisted Commissioning Education (MECEP) program. His desire is to attend either the Univ. of Virgina or Virginia Tech and major in history (maybe my genealogical research helped this interest?). My reason to add this is to request assistance from anyone who may have a connection with either school and who could assist with the right connections - it would be forever appreciated. I did see where the baseball field for UVA is named for Thomas "Ted" Edward Davenport. Does anyone know which Davenport line this gentleman is connected to? FYI - when visiting the Marine officer in charge at UVA my son was told that a MECEP student has not been accepted since 1998. Thank you all for the work that has been contributed, especially to Doc for his continued work. Most sincerely, Angela Groenhout Maryville, TN ____________________________________________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Everyone is raving about the all-new Yahoo! I wonder about his role in my missing Davenports in 1851. have no other link to this Wm. Joseph seems to also be a likely one to pursue. Thank You in advance. Ellen Eanes Bethel

    2. I am reseaching my family of African American family of Northumberland, Va. My ggggrandfather came from the West Indies but not sure of of yet if he came as a slave or not. Not sure if he had the surname of Davenport. But on the 1860 census he did have the name of Davenport. Found his wife in the inventory of the Coles family of Northumberland. Sandra
