    3. Some one asked whether Newberry County, SC, had such a thing as a genealogy society. They do; it is a chapter of the South Carolina Genealogy Society, and the address is: Old Newberry District Chapter SCGS P. O. Box 154 Newberry SC 29108-0154 Mr. David E. Sease has been most helpful and courteous in answering my queries. He later referred me to a paid researcher, and that was even more helpful. Pauline M. Derhak

    3. Nancy Davenport, The Claiborne I had reference to was b. in WC, VA and later removed to Wayne Co., KY. So I don't think we are talking about the same Claiborne. There were several by that name in the families of his descendants. Perhaps this is where your Claiborne came from. I do not know of a Claiborne from GA but would be interested in knowing more. Thank you for writing. 3. To all Newberry Davenports: After a heart attack on August 19 and subsequent quadruple by-pass surgery on August 23, I have enjoyed an extended break and am now back in my office. As some of you know, I have fairly extensive files on the Newberry Davenports and would enjoy hearing from any of you who have joined us recently. I would like to note that close observation over the past year has led me to believe that most, if not all the Greenville Davenport lines were earlier from Newberry Co., SC. My research in Greenville is limited but I will be willing to discuss these several lines in Greenville County and how I believe they connect. Presently I do not have hard evidence about the Floyd Davenport mentioned earlier, but I do know that Joseph Davenport who moved to Greenville County around 1800 from Newberry. His 1804 will was probated 4 March 1805 in Greenville County. His wife was Margaret FLOYD. Perhaps her maiden name is a clue. For those of you with whom I corresponded earlier, note that my e-mail address changed. R. L. Guffin

    3. I have no secrets. It isn't that I do not appreciate the effort expended. It is that no one seems to have any information regarding my Phebe Davenport Loman Coffman (ca 1807), who lived in KY and IL, and I do not have anything to contribute, since she is my most recent Davenport. 3. Hello Nancy, Just in regard to this message I DO want you to know how much your sharing was appreciated by myself as I'm sure every other person involved. You have given me some new ideas to think on and study. I just need to find some free moments to do that. Right now I could come up with some questions that have come to my mind but I want to look for answers myself before depending on someone else to do my checking. IF I can get to that and find what I think could be a connection I would at that point have things to share also... It is just really hard to get the time....which I am really sorry for because I love working at it myself. I've been trying to organized what I have and get it into my computer for about a year now and it is just really slow going. For the Bonnilass (I'm sure I blew that) who just wrote in, regarding your Davenports that 'aren't talkin'........ your family must be the same as ours...!! Secrets.... The main point though Nancy, is THANK YOU! 3. Nancy Royce, I was in hopes your files would encourage some new dialogue and things would begin to move again on the Davenport research. I have some files I had considered posting but it would appear it is an effort in futility in starting any new dialogue. I sincerelly appreciate your effort and the sharing of this material. 3. Does anyone know where the name Claiborne came from? I have Claiborne Davenport in my line and several of the same name follow through in later generations. He was the son of Thomas Davenport & Mary Nolan of WCVA. I am not familiar with the Nolan line to know if the name came from there. Mary
