    2. I don't know if there is a connection to your Davenports. Were your Davenports near Birmingham? I am not familiar with where Dardenelle AR is located. If it is near Marion Co. perhaps there is a connection. What time frame did they settle there? Mary

    3. Hello Earl, I've been researching Isham Davenport, son of John and Lucy Davenport for quite a few years now which has not been real easy. Especially talking about his early family. I believe he has been married 4 times - because of Census Records for the first marriage. Marriage 2, 3 and 4 are documented. #1 ? had 3 children. Names I 'believe to be correct are Joel - born c 1829 - died 1850 Russell Co., VA - Mary Polly - b. about 1826 in Russell Co., VA married Andrew Williams - Lucinda Davenport b. c 1829 married Isaac Kestner. These 3 I have no 'Proof' for. Wife # 2 - Rebecca Suffridge (Sulfridge)... This is our ancestor 1. John Davenport b. 1832 Russell Co., VA d. Dec. 31, 1861 Lynchburg,VA 2. 2. Mary, you may want to contact a Dr. Leon Marsh in Arab, Alabama. His mother was a Davenport and he has done 40 years of research on the Davenports. I do know there was a Sallie Davenport in our family. My family descended from Willis Augustus Davenport who was born in 1808 and died in 1881. He married a Francis Coker and they lived in the upstate(Greenville county) of South Carolina. I do know some of the children moved to Alabama in the mid-1800's. Dr. Marsh can fill in the missing pieces. Good luck and stay in touch. Roy Willis Davenport

    1. [DAVENPORT] Great site
    2. Hi to my "listmates" (new term!) I found a wonderful website called Classmates.com, used to locate former classmates. I located my mother's high school and have E-mailed someone who graduated high school with her in Chicago in 1934! You can look up classmates and schools for free, but to be able to obtain their E-mail addresses and get alumni information, they charge $25 for two years membership. I think this could be a great tool for contacting friends of our parents and grandparents. Margobelle

    3. Bonnie, Yes I did note your previous message that there was a Presley G. Davenport in the Pike County census of 1840. My records show that my Presley's eldest brother, James, was born in Pike County in 1831. Sibling #2, Lue, was born in Cherokee County in 1833 and sibling #3, Matilda, was born in Henry County in 1839. It is quite possible that they could have been back in Pike County again in 1840. I haven't had a chance to view this census yet, but it will be interesting to note the age ranges of Presley G.'s children when I do. My records show that sibling #4, Jesse Dawson, was born in Henry County in 1844. That would mean that they moved from Henry Co. back to Pike Co. and then back to Henry Co. again. This is certainly possible in view of the way that they had been moving around from 1831 to 1839. I thank you for telling me about the census report. I had not checked any GA census rolls at all. 3. Dear Cousins, Having read about Paul Crunk's Presley Davenport of VA and his possible connection to Davis Davenport of VA, I suddenly remembered that this Saturday, 8 Jan 2000, marks the 65th anniversary of the birth of Elvis Presley (my idol when I was a teenager) of MS (Mississippi, not Microsoft ;-). I wondered if there might be a connection between the Davenport and Presley surnames (Davis > Elvis?) and decided to find out. I found my answers on RootsWeb (our benefactor), of all places. Alas, no connection is apparent (however, I did find out that Elvis is probably a cousin of ex-President Jimmy Carter). For anyone wishing to learn more about the ancestors of Elvis, please visit http://www.rootsweb.com/~rwguide/notable/elvis.htm Even if you don't care about Elvis or his ancestors, you should visit this page because it contains links that will help you find information about other "notables", including Ahnentafels of each of the American Presidents (in progress). For those of you on the list that are not "American" (the number of you are growing and your presense is *very* welcome), I invite you to write directly to RootsWeb and volunteer to help them become a little more "International" in scope. They have limited resources (less than 10% of the people who benefit from the vast information they provide actually donate to help keep it going) and they can use all the help they can get with collecting and publishing valuable data (i. e. Free BMD records from England, etc.). Regards, Nevada Jack ListManager Jack@Ralph.org
