    3. Martha, You might contact the National Archives for a search of their records. You've got initials and a state, that narrows it down considerably. Union soldier records are organized by state, last name, first name. Once you have that record, you may get other valuable information, particularly if he applied for a pension. Ask them to search both bodies of information, they are not the same set of files. The GAR sounds like it might be a reference to the post war organization "The Grand Army of the Republic" Their successor organization, the Sons of Union Veterans, might have something on him as well. Both entities are online and have links to further information. Just don't have the URL's at my fingertips. Use a good search engine and you'll find them. 3. Many thanks to John Scott Davenport and Ann Graham for setting the record straight for me and referring me to Nevada Jacks web site on the Pamunky Davenports. All this time I thought my Davenports were another group and I am just sick when I think of all the postings referring to the Pamunky group that I deleted without reading!! I recorded my old Davenport info back in the days when I was too naive to document my findings. so I don't know who to contact to corrrect this. Is there any connection between William DAvenport and Davis Davenport? and is there any info on Davis' wife or parents? Sara Norris

    1. Re: [DAVENPORT] Many Thanks Acknowledged
    2. Sara: The William Davenport who married Ann Arnold was the son of Martin Davenport, eldest son of Davis Davenport, the patriarch of Pamunkey Davenports. We strongly suspect that Martin's wife was Dorothy Glover, but we don't even have a suspicion of who Davis' wife was--although we identify four sons (Martin, Thomas, Elias, and John) and one daughter (Ann, who married Thomas Graves) as Davis' issue. I descend from Augustine, William and Ann's second son, who moved to Rowan (now Davidson) County, North Carolina, in the mid-1760s. All of these folk are in the lineage on Nevada Jack's web page. 1. [DAVENPORT] Do you have a "Black Sheep Ancestor"?
    2. Jack W. Ralph
    3. The Smiths were proud of their family traditions. Their ancestors had come to America on the Mayflower. They included Senators and Wall Street Wizards. They decided to compile a family history as a legacy for their children and grandchildren. They hired a fine author. Only one problem arose - how to handle that unwanted information that great-uncle George had brought to the Family Tree .... when he was executed in the electric chair!!! The experienced author said, "No problem", he could handle the story tactfully, and so he did!! The book was published, and here is what it said: "Great-uncle George occupied a chair of applied electronics at an important government institution and was attached to his position by the strongest of ties, and, indeed, his death came as a great shock." :-) Nevada Jack :-)

    3. I am interested in your line as Thomas Graves is my 6th great grandfather via Thomas -John Graves and Isabella Lea - John Herndon Graves and Nancy Slade- Capt William Graves and Isabella Graves - Elijah Graves and Eliza Gunn - Rufus Yancy Graves and Eliza Lewis Gilmer . I have a lot of information on the Graves but would like to know about William Davenport as I have two lines to Davenport's. One via William and Ann Woodruff and one through James Davenport and Elizabeth Gilliam. I seem to hear a lot about all other Davenports but not these so perhaps this will gain some more information From Ann Graham thifol26@softdisk.com -----Original Message----- From: Sara Norris <wtlumber@centurytel.net> To: DAVENPORT-L@rootsweb.com <DAVENPORT-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Tuesday, January 25, 2000 9:15 AM Subject: [DAVENPORT] William Davenport >Looking for info. on William Davenport who married Ann Woodruff (no dates).
