    3. It's between $100 and $200 each person. Considering how much some people spend on their genealogy, I would think it would be worth it. If some Davenport male wants to head it up, I would certainly make an effort to find the descendants of my Grandmother's brother and pay for one of them to be tested. -----Original Message----- From: Robert D.Brooke [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, January 18, 2003 3:44 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [DAVENPORT] DNA Testing My apologies if this has been previously posted, but what is the approximate cost to do the DNA testing? 3. With other males named Davenport. This will give clusters of Ys, say Y(1), Y(2), Y(3). If we are lucky, only a small number of Ys. Suppose everyone with New England Davenport ancestry (or almost everyone) has Y(1). Suppose everyone with Southern US Davenport ancestry has Y(2). This would show that just about all US Davenports came from two colonists. If all US Davenports had Y(1), it would mean that the same ancestor (in England) gave rise to all Davenports in the US. Similarly, Davenports in England could be tested to determine the number of original Davenport male ancestors in that population and if both places have the same ancestors. It will not give the names and dates of the original ancestors, of course. -----Original Message----- From: Winifred Auch [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, January 18, 2003 2:46 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [DAVENPORT] Y DNA Testing Just curious, but with *whom* do we compare this DNA? ______________________________

    1. [DAVENPORT] Y-DNA Testing for Davenports
    2. Hello everyone My name is Bill Davenport. I am a descendant of Thomas Davenport of Dorchester. I have been in discussions with Steven Perkins about Y-DNA testing for the Davenport Family. He has worked with several families in doing this. I have been volunteered to become the "Group Administrator" for this and am in the process in setting up a Davenport Surname Project at Family Tree DNA. Sometime in the next couple days I will sent out an email describing what is involved and any costs associated with it. Bill Davenport [email protected]

    3. Actually I don't have xp on this computer only on my husband's new editing computer.( I have Windows 98) But I do have an "Easy CD Creator" soft ware program installed on this one. I used that and it copied the files just fine...but it is in a "read only" format and does not work as a back-up that can be re-entered into the FTW file. ( Family Treemaker does not recognize it as a "backup"). Nevertheless...at least....the CD will store the file safely and it can be printed from , and the CD can be sent to others to look at. 3. In order to have Y chromosome testing you must: 1. Be a male. (Women have no Y chromosome). If you want to use the data to say anything about Davenports, you must: 2. Be surnamed Davenport. (I have a Y, but not the Davenport Y, since my name is BANKS. It would do no good to test my Y.) Therefore, this concerns only males surnamed Davenport/Devenport. 2. Willard Anderson
    3. John Scott, Sometime back I ran into an anomoly concerning William Davenport who married Delilah Hensley and resided in Johnson County, Indiana. I have run across numerous death dates for William Davenport given as 5 August 1852. In reviewing the 1860 Census for Johnson County, Hensley Township I ran across this entry: Family 259/255 William Davenport 60 M Farmer 2400/800 North Carolina Lucy J. 39 F Kentucky James H. 19 M Indiana Eliza A. 17 F Indiana Delila C. 15 F Indiana Jemima Kephart 4 F Indiana William appears next door to his son Ambrose Davenport's family and Joel Davenport, son of Jesse Davenport of Boone County. Additionally the box at the right of the form stating married within the last year is checked next to William and Lucy J. I don't know if this is new to you and I am running it by you to see if you have a different death date for William other than the 1852 date I have run across numerous times.
